– just maybe Alex is pregnant.
I think she is developing an udder. This will be her second calf. It is not unusual for a cow to fill her udder in the last few weeks. (As Lady Astor showed us recently). In fact I am feeling 60% sure that she is pregnant.
What do you think.
Though she does not look too wide. Maybe she is deep.
And what about you Aunty Anna. Not telling?
From the dates I collected last year for Alex her second possible date (she has passed her first) would be the 23rd of this month.
My first date for Aunty Anna is the 19th of this month. But she is still in the maybe maybe-not category. Alex is in the maybe maybe .
These two (above) – they completely ignore each other unless there is a camera near by. We got up to 100F yesterday down here in the swamp. The cows spent most of the day under the trees.
The pigs stayed out of the sun altogether.
See that piglet actually sleeping in the water trough? She lifted her head up as I lifted the camera.
I hope you have a lovely day.
Love celi
Weather forecast. More heat but with the chance of rain. I can resume planting I think. I would be grateful for a shower, dragging the hoses around the animals and gardens takes hours each day.
Tuesday 06/13 20% / 0 in
Sunshine and clouds mixed. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 94F. Winds SW at 10 to 15 mph.
Tuesday Night 06/13 50% / 0.21 in
Partly cloudy in the evening followed by scattered thunderstorms after midnight. Low 74F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 50%.
I have the food fortune to be on the beach in Sardinia right this minute. I bet your pigs would find the cool surf quite refreshing.
Alex looks wide in the first picture, but she is doing a contortionist routine. The pigs look like they are having a great time in site of the heat 🙂
So many maybes… I dislike the waiting game, but there is little to do about it! You still have hotter temps than we do. That’s very strange!
No no no – IL is not supposed to be 100….. Texas gets in the 100’s not IL! We need to put a call into Mother Nature here. So if Alex is ‘with calf’ does that change your mind about Carlos? I hope she is – I would love to see you have a dexter herd.
Very sensible piggies. 😊
PEACE AT LAST!..But for how long?

I’ve been watching your weather and worried for you and the animals. We are so cold here for the last week but I know the heat is coming. I am so sorry that you are all dealing with what can’t be controlled. Just know I’m thinking about you even though I’m not commenting often.
I would be sleeping in a cool bath also with 100 degrees outside….whew!!
I wish that you will get moderate temperatures and gentle rains soon. Slogging around with hoses is definitely no fun, unless you run through the stream every now and then. Everybody looks pretty comfortable and that does look like a developing udder on Alex. Keep calm and soldier on is pretty tough when you are the one keeping everyone else comfortable.
More milking in your near future?
I’m trying to channel some of the Ilinois heat through the screen to NSW… just to ease life for us both… it’s wet wet wet here, we need to dry out. Bloody weather 😆
“Those two” — a family portrait? Profile shot works well. Very nice.
I love your Instagram video’s. Almost all of them in the barn has a rooster crowing in it. I love that sound!
Great photos as usual Cecilia. I feel like l’m walking the farm with you:)
Chuckling at your ‘categories’–maybe/maybe not and maybe/maybe 😆 xx
I hardly know what I am talking about here, but aren’t there simple pregnancy tests like listening for a heart beat or movement?
She’s looking a little “ribby” to me… : )
