Love this kids T shirt.

On the weekend we had a lovely group of city folk come down for a farm lunch.

And I just loved this childs T shirt. A message for everyone of every age as we move into the future that is tomorrow.

Look at the healing on this side of Wai. The vet is calling him a marvel.

Then yesterday morning I awoke to no internet again. Our land sits very low so no-one is sure how we have signal at all actually and the summer herons keep sitting on Johns tower breaking bits off it.

But all is well again for the meantime. Especially for pigs and dogs and chickens in the hay field. We have a new batch of chickens being delivered this week these are dual purpose so when they have grown a bit I will take the hens into the chook house and the roosters in to the chicken tractor. For mid summer meat chickens I like to have a slower growing bird – the fast growing meat birds get too stressed in the heat. These are White Rocks.  An old heritage breed that I have not raised before so we will see.

Amanda (who is on her way back to Texas today) and I decided to catch the train for Chicago yesterday, I have not been anywhere at all so far this summer so it was a wonderful change. We had lunch and puddled about the shops. Alissa and Micheal had the farm all in hand which enabled me to take some time off.

Today Chicago John of The Bartolini Kitchens cookbook (one of the most used cookbooks in my kitchen)  is coming down to the farm to show us how to make ravioli. He has filled my freezer with hay-making ravioli in the past. It is becoming a summer tradition.  This time we get a lesson too! If I have time and my hands are not too covered in flour I will document it for you.

I hope you have a lovely day.

We will have a delicious day.

  1. It’s so wonderful to see Wai’s progress. And what lovely photos generally. As the old song has it, the future’s so bright, we gotta wear shades!

  2. I envy you the ravioli lesson with Chicago John. I’m a big fan. In the meantime I’ve had a brilliant idea – you should train a falcon to scare off those summer herons. A new hobby to take up in your spare time🤣🤣🤣

  3. If I didn’t know better, I’d say that was a whole nother pig… Have a wonderful day in the kitchen with Chicago John as visiting Kitchen Mama. Of course we must have photos!

  4. I must say after having fibre optic cable internet (buried 1m deep) installed we have had no internet disconnectivity problems at all due to lightening, rain and theft etc. It is also superfast, makes life so much easier. I am with Kate, Wai looks like he is going to heal up completely and with much less scarring than we were expecting. Lots of TLC and good clean food did the trick here. Please please make a picture tutorial for us all, learning from the Maestro’s hands 🙂 Laura

  5. Lovely summer days for you & Wai & all the Farmy Folk & creatures. I imagine Amanda hated to depart just now. Oh, photos please (with cheese on it) of Chicago John’s ravioli making lessons.

  6. Wai does look much better. Healing for sure. How many weeks has it been? I guess I can’t say BYE Amanda since she is headed to Texas – where I am!!! 🙂

  7. Love the t-shirt! You should sell that in your shop. Exciting about Wai! Have fun with the chef. Looking forward to the chicken pics!

  8. PS: I’ve seen a couple of comments about having trouble signing up for the newsletter. I didn’t have any problems doing so from my phone.
