After my lazy morning of reading by the pool we decided to go for a climb before lunch. The walls are, after all, pretty close.

Above is looking up to where we will climb, from the point of view of the terrace and below is the view from a wall called Laertes.

The children scrambled up the walls like cheerful yet careful goats.

Then it was off to the beach for a dip before cleaning up for dinner.

Following the recommendation of a 76 year old climber from New York we drove into the hills to look for a tiny outdoor restaurant on a bend. We did find it but first we found a cheese lady.

She had a stand set up on the side of the road and was selling fresh cheeses and olives.
Amazing.
She had the BEST feta! And bought too much. But it will be no problem to add it to every meal for the rest of the week.
We also found another lady with a stand on the side of the road selling local thyme honey. So we are all set.
Our little restaurant was a delight.

I had kebab with local lamb from just over the hill – there were also pork kebabs that were wonderful but no the man said – not local – the pork was from Kos. ( sounded local enough to me).
Later, as we sat in the dying light drinking and talking with the proprietor, I watched the cheese lady load her wares into a wheel barrow place her chair upside down on the top of her load and proceed back up the hill, disappearing into the trees in moments.
Last night I had a very good sleep.
The weather continues to be sunny and warm. Perfect Greek weather.

I loved being in Greece, thanks for bringing back the memories. Now all you need is some good bread for your goat cheese and honey.
I found that bread this morning!
Sounds idealic. I should have joined you there. Always wanted to go to Greece.
Greece is very cruisy but the local industry is tourism
One word…Perfection….
No matter how old our off spring are we always refer to them as our children…my eldest child is 60
Goodness!
These pictures are so beautiful. I love the abstracts of the rocks and sky. It feels dry and crisp and hot all at the same time.
Beautifully hot – not muggy at all
You can have the climbing but I’ll come along to get the cheese, honey and kebabs . . . 🙂 !
Me too!
The kebabs were great – lots of herbs
That little corner of “The Med” sure is ticking all the boxes. Wonderful. Laura
Great place for family
Mmmm, home made flatbreads topped with mild fresh feta and drizzled with honey, figs and thyme, and baked in a clay oven… Not only are you in the Cradle of the Gods, you’re sharing their food too!
Kate – do you have to paint the picture SO vividly ! I mean, we are only human and so trying not to be selfish !!
Sorry, sorry…. But all of my best travel memories are tied up with food!
(And I’ll just bet that you can still taste them too; )
Especially the Greek ones… Mountain honey with fresh yoghurt, spit roast lamb, avgolemono soup, tomato and garlic rubbed on fresh bread. Ok, I’ll stop now…
Oh dear, you’ve got me salivating just hearing your description!: ). And the bruschetta (sorry don’t know the Greek terminology; ) I definitely have grown, made and tasted. Can’t wait for the tomatoes to ripen!
Late! Yes – we found the flatbreads – very tasty- it is a pity the figs and tomatoes are not I season though
A great pity, but you still have olives, garlic, cheese, onions and honey, and perhaps a little lamb or goat? You can eat like kings 🙂
Oh no, there you go again, Kate! Got me right by the taste buds; )
Only one solution: pay a visit to Greece 😉
That would be lovely.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the best side of Greece, Celi! You seem to have picked a beautiful spot. Of which there are many, I hasten to add. Greek Island life…bliss
It is perfect for us- being very close to the walls
Ahhh ~~~ Greece!!! Such an idyllic area on this earth!!! Enjoy ~~ enjoy for me ~~ nothing like a Greek salad!!!
I have to say salads in Greece are very different from Greek salads other places.
I love the vinegar they use over there!!” And the feta cheese -yumm!!
We put too much dressing on salads over here….. small squeeze of lemon and I’m ready for my salad!
It all looks so wonderful. I love small family restaurants, little gems.
Mum dad grandpa and baby – really family!
Boy, that cheese couldn’t get much more “Local”, could it? Feta cheese, olives & Thyme honey? Wow, all you need now is a loaf of something crusty and you’re good to go: ) (Sounds SO good!!)
We have found some really good local bread
Small hole-in-the-wall cafes are often a treasure find. We seek them out.
I didn’t know you were a climber. Good for you.
Yes! Those big cafe tourist traps with their trappers hovering at the door always terrify me,
Ah, the memories. Such an idyllic place. So glad you all are relaxing and enjoying.
Yes it is lovely
What a brilliant day out – I wish I had the feta, olives and kebabs!
The olives here are so nice! Real! Not those big fat overblown tasteless ones.
They will have been cured traditionally, over time, as opposed to adding chemicals to speed up the process …and of course there are some excellent Greek varieties that might never leave the islands.
Thyme honey? YUM!!!!!! Honey and feta….. drooling here.
Yes!! And thyme honey on real Greek yoghurt! Divine!
