Mucking about in Boats

I have left Wellington, New Zealand –

and flew to Tauranga, New Zealand. (Another tree for my carbon co-pay).

Then drove to Mount Manganui, which is just around the corner.

My little brother – who will always be my little brother even though he has greying hair and towers over his big sister – picked me up from the airport and off we went to muck about in his boat.

He is pulling it out to give the hull a bit of a clean – so we went down to get it ready to be hauled up and dropped (gently) into a cradle.

My Dad was a boat builder, I grew up around boats of various sizes but I was happy to say no thank you to a quick sail. I would be vomiting within seconds. I do not do the sea well.

Later we met up with the family business peeps and played corn ball. Yes. My brother and his family have a business selling backyard games. One of which is corn ball. And New Zealanders love this old American game.

We were at The Rising Tide. A great brewery.

I am not sure who won but the Gin and Feijoa was great!

Here is the website in case you want to invest in one of their games. They sell them to schools and help write the applications for schools to access funding to buy them. So let me know if you know any teachers who might be interested.

In Back Yard Games, NZ backyardgames.

It is the next morning now and we are back at the boat. (Dead battery).

Here is my office view this morning. Using Little Brother’s phone as a hot spot.

Have a lovely day!

  1. I love the sea. Love sailing. But I’m the type who needs to have a hand on the tiller and an eye on the horizon so I don’t vomiting.

  2. I have five kids and the youngest is still the baby! (40) Only one son, the boy!(49) Though all my daughters call him the blue eyed boy!

  3. I have a little brother too. He was in the passenger seat while I was driving and had to slam on the brakes. I instinctively put my hand out to stop him from flying forward. He thought that was so funny. I said, “Once a little brother, always a little brother.” Love him to bits. How nice you are seeing many of your family members.

  4. Good morning Celi,
I especially loved this post this morning, as my husband and I did a lot of boating when we were younger. In fact our boating was in the San Juan Islands and up into Canada, and before that the California coast. Ahhhhh……I remember the dead battery scenario well! It seems like it was always something in boating. haha. Would do it again in a heartbeat although now my hands could not handle the lines. It is so great you are having these adventures while you are young….MAKING MEMORIES.
