Finally. I have reached Melbourne where I will begin to work again.

Though this garden is calling to me.

What’s the first thing you do when you land in a new space. For me I check the fridge then set up my work space.

Then plug everything in and go for a walk to scout out the neighbourhood.

Then bread from WildLife.

I popped into the second hand shop – every country has different offerings in their second hand shops. This one was so big it was a little overwhelming!

And a new store for me – that falls straight into my sustainable criteria.

This store scoops up near or past use by date stuff and sells it cheap to keep it out of the bin. A great business model I think. You just never know what they will be carrying but they did have tea yesterday!
Today I have set up my workspace and I am already hours into my writing.
Keeping the writing going is important to me.
I love a lot about Melbourne but mostly the walking. I can collect everything I need by walking. So on my lunch break I will walk down to the supermarket to buy some fresh ravioli. My daughter made a huge pot of chicken stock so I know exactly what we ate having for dinner.
Talk soon.

I really liked Melbourne, but it’s a lifteime since I was there.
It is super easy to get around. Though a wee bit windy and chilly today – it is winter though!
Oh, and we didn’t manage to catch up while you were here. Perhaps when you return for your son’s wedding later this year. Well I can hope. I am catching up on reading and have loved your walks around Wellington. It’s such a great little city and easily traversed. And how I love Newtown. I often go there just to wander the streets buy coffee and just sit and think or if I had thought of it, do some writing on the computer. But there is so much to see going on around this little suburb, so different from where I live.
And I love Melbourne. We used to visit regularly. Enjoy the rest of your stay in Australia.
Such a shame. Those boys had me so busy. I might be running a few workshops in NZ at the end of summer so hopefully then!
Great.
Looks wonderful!
I am behind again in reading your missives, but just came across this one. Melbourne sounds inviting! I’ll have to devote some time to catching up! Take care and enjoy!
No worries about catching up – I have been travelling and there is a bit more to go too!! Just jump in whenever you have the chance.
sounds like a wonderful beginning there –
Yes! It is such a nice town
Another leg of your adventure. Sounds exciting, especially Cheaper by Miles. We once had a shop run on the same lines, long since closed down sadly! Maybe because it was called Pete’s Treats, not the same ring to it! Have a great time and don’t work too hard….ha ha!
Lovely Melbourne weather, cold, but with wintery sunshine. I think that branch of Cheaper Buy Miles must be the Brunswick one? My nephew goes to the one in Footscray and is a huge fan! He’s a proper Melbournian and does most of his food shopping at South Melbourne Market; he says the trick to working out whether someone’s selling their own produce is to see whether there are stacks of produce boxes under the table, or whether it’s in old crates and generic cardboard boxes.
We are going to be making a stop there at the end of 2024. My goal is to visit Lune Croissanterie while we are there. If you haven’t read Kate Reid’s book Lune I highly recommend it!
Hello to Australia! I loved it there, and stayed the entire six months until the day my visa expired! Actually wanted to stay and work, “above the table,” but they didn’t need teachers at the time. Wonderful country and people!
Idyllic! The home is so beautiful, elegant, restful. That darling dog and cat say it all! Enjoy!
Sounds like another wonderful stop in your travels. Are all your children in Australia and New Zealand?
Australia, New Zealand, California and Canada! All over!
You must have instilled that sense of adventure in them!
This post is followed by links to your 2016 posts… so much has changed so much the same. We had no clue what the ensuing years would bring. Glad they bring you back to Australia for a Melbourne fix. I’ll get there again one day.
One day ! And gosh 2016. We had no idea!!
Poetic views
