      • Oh, and we didn’t manage to catch up while you were here. Perhaps when you return for your son’s wedding later this year. Well I can hope. I am catching up on reading and have loved your walks around Wellington. It’s such a great little city and easily traversed. And how I love Newtown. I often go there just to wander the streets buy coffee and just sit and think or if I had thought of it, do some writing on the computer. But there is so much to see going on around this little suburb, so different from where I live.
And I love Melbourne. We used to visit regularly. Enjoy the rest of your stay in Australia.

  1. I am behind again in reading your missives, but just came across this one. Melbourne sounds inviting! I’ll have to devote some time to catching up! Take care and enjoy!

  2. Another leg of your adventure. Sounds exciting, especially Cheaper by Miles. We once had a shop run on the same lines, long since closed down sadly! Maybe because it was called Pete’s Treats, not the same ring to it! Have a great time and don’t work too hard….ha ha!

  3. Lovely Melbourne weather, cold, but with wintery sunshine. I think that branch of Cheaper Buy Miles must be the Brunswick one? My nephew goes to the one in Footscray and is a huge fan! He’s a proper Melbournian and does most of his food shopping at South Melbourne Market; he says the trick to working out whether someone’s selling their own produce is to see whether there are stacks of produce boxes under the table, or whether it’s in old crates and generic cardboard boxes.

  4. We are going to be making a stop there at the end of 2024. My goal is to visit Lune Croissanterie while we are there. If you haven’t read Kate Reid’s book Lune I highly recommend it!

  5. Hello to Australia! I loved it there, and stayed the entire six months until the day my visa expired! Actually wanted to stay and work, “above the table,” but they didn’t need teachers at the time. Wonderful country and people!

  6. This post is followed by links to your 2016 posts… so much has changed so much the same. We had no clue what the ensuing years would bring. Glad they bring you back to Australia for a Melbourne fix. I’ll get there again one day.
