Sustainable Sunday Podcast

I wish I was a more organized content developer but I simply am not. My Sustainable Sunday Podcast is a prime example.

I will think on it and cogitate and ruminate for days before the time to write strikes me. I am almost pig headed about not beginning until I am ready. Then I will write for hours.

Sustainable Sunday Podcast with Celi drifted off into a story yesterday!

The May Beach Wars

And was published just in time. (Sunday) I always publish immediately. I cannot bear to write something then set it up to publish at a later date to fit my neglected content planner. That just does my head in.

But my Sustainable Sunday (with Celi) DID get out on Sunday, unedited (as usual) and FREE for all (as usual). So that was a win!

Have a listen and if you like it – share it. I would love that! If you like it a lot and have 5 bucks a month to spare there is a subscription offer there for you. The money goes to feed the rescue pigs. I would love to have enough to take in another pig to be Tima’s friend. So if you hear of any rescue pigs – give me a shout!

Selfies

My hair looked good yesterday so I thought I would take a photo for my daughter but the timer clicked the (non-existent) shutter too early. Which made me laugh so I thought I would share the laughter. Boo’s expression! 😂😂

Barn Chicks

I was leaning over the gate trying to get a shot of the little barn hatched chicks in the field but just could not capture them all. They are elusive. And their mother is very protective. There are still six I think. Also Jude had poked her enormous head through the gate I was leaning on and was jabbing me in the thigh. ‘More food. More food!’

The farm hand has still not got around to fixing those gates so I expect Jude and FreeBee on the porch any day now. I will remind him again today. But when do reminders turn into the nagging we are accused of? Right?

Never mind. He’ll get to it when he is ready.

Big Jude will remind him!

Brooder Chicks

The fifty were cold last night. I turned off their second light at bedtime because they were scattered out to the edges of the enclosure- too hot.

Then in the night the temperature dropped and they were all huddled together. I turned the second light back on until the air temperature warms up again. I don’t like to keep them too hot because eventually they will be going out on the clover. We don’t want hot house chicken! They need to be hardy.

So that second light goes on and off regularly.

Do you see a few feathers coming in? When they are all feathered out the lights go off altogether.

Weather

I know that looks cool today but this week the highs go back up again.

We have some nice hot days ahead. Which is good. Those little barn chicks need a few more warm days to get bigger.

Never did get this shot right. But there you are!!

PS – The blankets on the couch are because Boo will not stop lying on the furniture when I am not looking. And I cannot leave him outside unattended as we know. Nanny Boo, aye!?

Have a lovely day!

  1. Such a cozy, yummy post. Covering all the bases, the things we are curious about. Thank you for all the sharing you do. Can’t wait to hear the podcast! You and your hair make a lovely couple. xxx

  2. The chicks remind me of when I would visit my paternal aunt and uncle in Bettendorf, Iowa. They had a hatchery and a big yard full of chickens. When I was old enough I would go along with my uncle to deliver chicks, hundreds of the little, fluffy, yellow, peeping babies in the special boxes. I got to help fill and later empty those boxes. Had tours of every farm, met all the animals, usually was so full of cookies and fresh that morning milk that I didn’t really want dinner when we got back. It was wonderful. The rich earth producing crops, the lovely scenery, the welcoming people and all the animals I wanted to bring home with me. Then sitting with my aunt under the huge burr oak looking our over the Mississippi river in the evenings. Long ago and far away now, but treasured memories.

      • It was surprisingly loud in the station wagon with thousands of chicks in their boxes. It was loud in the hatchery itself too. All those little peeps taken together in the hatchery could be overwhelming for some people. Never bothered me, I liked being in the basement of the barn, anywhere in the barn really.

  3. Your hair does look lovely. I love the look on your dog’s face in the first photo! I have blankets over everything too as my dogs think they can sleep on anything comfy. But they are very spoiled pups. Those chicks are growing quickly, as they do.

  4. Mouse now ‘owns’ my sofa. It’s a pale putty colour and he has short black silky hair, so my sofa is always covered with an old quilt and his furry blankie. I tried keeping him off, but… greyhounds. They don’t believe anyone else could possibly be in charge. As everyone has said, lovely hair, it suits you that length.

  5. When do reminders turn into nagging? I very good question indeed!!! 😉 I wish I could send you some ducks to keep Quackers company. We have two more sitting nests right now, which is unusual for so late in the year. Also we have a guinea sitting a nest. No idea why she has waited this long!
