Pop Quiz! Identify this:

In the absence of sunlight: it is time to entertain ourselves!

You have three seconds! Three Two One DING!

Oh you are all too good. Yes. It is indeed a teenager cow’s nose.

The cow was saying to me – quit with the photographing- throw the damn hay over already!

The mystery of the missing eggs

Hmm.

I have been keeping the chickens in the henhouse the last few days. And feeding and watching them in there. And I have gotten four eggs a day. But look at this hole in the door. Dug last night.

Something has been trying to creep back in. It has dug a hole under the door. Do you see?

I will throw flour all around the door and round the back of that building tonight to see if I can catch some footprints. It is a little too early for bastard mink. Though it has warmed up?

But I don’t think it is a mink. This is an egg eater not a meat eater – yet.

Though having said that I will mink-proof the space before I go away – I will be going to California next week, just for a week. It has been too long.

I swore I would never have any more cats:

But the Tall Teenager, who is now an adult and who is looking after the farm for me while I’m away had this wild cat that’s been hanging around his place. I don’t know. He wanted to bring it over here so I agreed because he is being so helpful and so here we are, beautiful big: Tom Kat.

Tom Kat is living in the Chicken Hospital until he gets to know us or else he will run back to Tall Teenagers house, which is just across the creek.

Plus BooBoo needs to get to know that he can’t chase him. Oh, and that reminds me, the big black cat who Him Indoors has named SnowBall appeared again yesterday so now there are four cats here when I wanted none at all. My poor birds.

Today is going to get away on me fast!

Lots to do. But you know how I love to be busy.

Here is Sustainable Sunday : A story. Sustainable tips. A recipe and more. Make yourself a coffee and pop over to The Kitchens Garden Letter.

And another week of TKG TAKE TEN ahead!

Have a gorgeous day.

  1. Well that was fun. My first thought was cell division on a microscope slide 😉

Can’t wait to see what you discover about that hole. Maybe the Tall Teenager will have the chance to delve into the mystery and if it is the Bastard Mink by chance, set Boo to dispatch it for good. I chuckled a bit at the new cat…truly one of those ‘best laid plans’ situations that seem to never work out as we hope.

  2. I think it’s a skunk that dug the hole under the door. They were a problem when I lived on the blasted hill in Chicago as were the raccoons. Such fun to open the dumpster lid to find an angry skunk and avoid being sprayed in the big city.

  3. Lovely Tom Kat! Funny how animals find us sometimes even when we don’t want them.

I had a beautiful cat who I also named Tom. Got him as a kitten when I was 4 years old. He was more like a dog than a cat – devoted to me and would let me do all sorts of things, like putting him in my doll’s high chair. He was tolerant and had a real sense of humour – he used to wait in his bed and gently swipe your ankles when you walked past. No claws, just a little tap to make you jump. I’m sure he did it just for the fun of it! Very sadly, he was poisoned by a gamekeeper when I was 14.

    A mystery about the eggs!

Glad to hear you’re California-bound soon. You deserve a break!
