And that would be me!!!

I thought about it in the night as I heard the rain begin. Heavy on my tin roof. So, from deep in my bed I did a quick mental inventory of the pockets. Then turned over and went back to sleep.

I saw myself take it off when I got warm doing afternoon chores last night and drape it over a bucket outside the barn and thought to myself. This is a bad idea. You will forget that for sure.

Ah well. Right?
We have thunder and lightning! In February no less. But there you are. I am glad I did not get around to mopping the floors yesterday.

Today will be a muddy mess. Still looking for a friend for Quacker.

Blast from the past. Marcel and Quacker.
It must be ten years ago.

Look what I found in my pencil case. After it had been through security four times. One of these things is not like the other.

Do you see it? One of my pocket knives. It is very old. And one of my favourites for a pocket. (Or a pencil case for sharpening pencils) But still, not meant to be in the cabin of a plane🤭.
In TKG Take Ten I am beginning to name the birds we are hearing. Many of you are so much better at American birds than me so let me know if you hear one I miss! We will start getting migratory birds soon. Not today though. Any self respecting birds of a feather will stay out of this weather.
Good morning!
Though this video got over a thousand hits. No duck offers. But I have to start somewhere – right?
Have a great day!
Pop in to the evening edition of the kitchens garden at TKG Take Ten. I will see you there later on, to lean on the gate with me and listen to the sounds of the birds in the trees on the farm.

I bought my father a Laguiole knife when I lived in Paris and brought it home as a Christmas present. At Charles de Gaul Airport the security officer felt the present and announced, “C’est un Laguiole, c’est bon!” So I flew to Heathrow and changed planes to fly to Cornwall. The English security officer pronounced the knife dangerous …but did let it go in the cockpit with the pilot. This was, of course, about 10 years before September 11th.
I wonder if you could buy a fertised duck egg for Quacker…
That is such an old fashioned knife-in plane story! I probably could get a fertilised egg of Quacker – she will probably start laying soon. I have one more person to ask then it might have to be the fair!
I think she might like having a surrogate child and best friend! If she doesn’t take to the egg, I’m sure a chicken would oblige.
…there’s more to the plane story. The pilot took off before I could retrieve the knife, so they had to send it to me by taxi, the next day!
A knife with a pilot and a driver! That was a well travelled gift!!
It was completely mad! The French international customs man thought it was perfectly normal, wheras an internal flight security man thought it was dangerous. It all ended well for me, but it cost them a lot for the taxi!
It would be lovely to get a duck at the fair from a 4H kid!
Love the low ground shot of Mr. Flowers as he surveys his kingdom looking so regal! The knife story…what does that say about our airport security systems/staff that something metallic and in a fairly obvious shape has made it through 4 times without notice…
It was in a tin with all my pens but yes. It surprised me too when I found it!
Great to see all the animals! We left a heavy sweatshirt outside and it rained the next day, it was soaking wet. Washed it after it dried in the sun for a few days and it was alright. Hope your jacket has the same luck! Hoping Quacker finds a great friend soon too!🤞🙂🤞
I hung it in the glasshouse – it will dry off there. That Carhart is almost indestructible!
Good! Love undestructable items like that.
Lucky that your pocket knife didn’t get found and confiscated. It would have been a shame to lose it along with all the memories it carries with it.
Yes! It would have been sad to lose it because they just toss them in the bin. Years ago they write me up for having a glue stick!!! They threw it away and made me sign a piece of paper saying I had been a bad girl.
That is disconcerting for sure that your knife went through security! Does nothing to increase one’s faith in “ security”, does it? I hope a duck will come along to be Quacker’s friend! We keep having swans come through, which is unusual for us here in Southwest Minnesota. Awfully fun to see, though!
OO! Swans! That would be a treat! Do they come to your pond? I would love a swan!
To the lake, yes. We’ve seen more this year than ever before. Sadly, they don’t stick around for the summer. Neither do the Loons, who just migrate by. Mores the pity!
Always love to see what you are up to. I remember using a knife to sharpen my pencils when I was a kid. No pencil sharpener in our humble household. It is refreshing to see someone using simple methods to obtain the result they want.
Jo
My Dad always sharpened his pencils with his knife. He got them super sharp too!
Okay now I have the lyric, “Someone left the cake out in the rain,” going round and round in my head and I cannot for the life of me remember the name of that song. Or how the rest of it goes for that matter!
MacArthur Park… I have been doing the same thing all morning 🙂
Aye, same here! But such a powerful song; and Richard Harris sang it, but darned if I can remember what movie that it was from… :/)
Now the second time I’m seriously trying to recall and the info still hasn’t come back on its own yet, so going to look it up…
Wow, who knew?! There was no Movie associated, apparently it played as a single on the radio when I was a kid: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacArthur_Park_(song)
Funny how we cannot leave it alone when a question pops up into our heads – especially as we can ask Aunty Google now!
I did leave it alone sadly (far too much other random ahite floating about in there these days to distract me:/) but THIS time I decided to look and learned a LOT about a song that’s moved me so much, for so long… Perhaps it was the doing of my Irish Grandfather who also loved the famous Tenor John McCormack and would sing to himself while working on the farm?
Well good, as you had me thinking I missed something with the movie angle! I did not remember it anywhere other than on the radio…the version I remember was a cover of the Harris original sung by Donna Summer.
Such great info that I never knew about the song. Thank you!
An ear worm – sorry about that Charlotte! (snort).
You are not the least bit sorry! I recognize that snort.
That’s it!Thank you. Now if I can only get that refrain out of my mind….
They took my special small Swiss Army knife I always carried in my purse. It came in handy so many times and had many memories. (It even had a corkscrew!) I just forgot to take it out of my purse and put it in the checked luggage. I still think of that wonderful little knife. I really hope Quacker finds a friend.
In the old days one HAD to have a corkscrew or a glass of wine became a battle! I have several pocket knives. I keep losing them and finding them again! Except the one that lives in my jacket pocket.
Marcel, my first farmy love💖, thank you, what a treat😊
I had a smile when I came across that picture too!
I got the ear worm too!
Years ago but after 9-11 my husband accidentally left his work pocket knife in his work backpack that he had otherwise emptied and was using as a carry on for a short plane flight. I went first through the airport security gates, merrily on my way then noted his absence. Returned to the security gates to find my tall dark bearded husband surrounded by security guards with guns drawn… had to diffuse that situation! And check the backpack and its contents as luggage. Interestingly on the return trip I similarly got into trouble but for having too many books in my hand luggage supposedly obscuring other possibly suspicious contents.
Books? Obscuring the bombs? Yes. I can see how that would look suspicious!!
*sigh* Oh the world we live in now… 😔
There is an app for your phone called Merlin from Cornell University that helps identify birds in several ways. There are “packs” for just about all locations on the earth with photos, songs and places various birds can be found, their breeding places and winter ranges. You can listen to bird calls on your phone out in the field, look at photos of birds that are usually found in a specific area, and even save your life list.
yes! I have used that for a while now. It is hard on battery life but tons of fun!
My cousin’s son went to Mexico for a wedding. He took the duffel bag he also uses when he goes on hunting trips. Unbeknown to him,, a single bullet had come out of the box and slipped under the lining of the bag. As a result he spent two days in a Mexican jail. A singularly unpleasant experience according to him.
BTW, I think you’ve been hacked on FB, I got a friend request from you.
Actually I think that was me! But I will check
my brother once bought a cool historic pocketknife from a native american fort and had to leave it behind or mail it to himself
