In Calgary! Thanks Gods.

And as usual I am awake and ready to go long before anyone (my son) else. But the tension of the last few weeks is draining right out of me.

I have become a puddle. The first flight was lovely. Because they gave me an upgrade.

The second flight had multiple hold ups. The captain was late arriving. Then the plane had a nuisance light that needed a reboot or something. Technicians were consulted. Why do they tell us these things. Because we are anxious flyers now everything is about Boeing and planes falling out of the sky. (major hype) and we are like: “Take your time. Don’t be a Homer Simpson and ignore the warning lights!”

The captain said, thank you for your patience, and the lady behind me, said who said I was being patient, which I thought was quite funny.

So we had to wait on the tarmac for ages in rainy Dallas Fort Worth until the lightning stopped. There was a lot of worry about the weather, but then we took off (a great sigh of relief from everyone) 45 minutes late, and it was smooth sailing all the way across to Calgary. It was as a dark flight. The staff kept the lights off, the plane was old, I could not get the seat to go back and of course I was starving! I think the staff would have pteferred we were not there at all, we hardly saw them. They were tired too, I think.

One thing I really liked in the Calgary immigration process was they had a special speedy lane for people who had connections. So these poor souls ( and we have all been there) were able to skip the long lines jam info into the kiosk and run. Of course, I did not have a connection which was wonderful so I could take my time.

Calgary was 15° with a little snow falling. But the cold up here is Cold!

Now. Leroy ran into my room this morning at speed. This was the best shot I got!

He is really into washing a persons face with his tongue.

We are staying in Calgary another night before driving up into Canmore.

Must run! We are going to change the oil on the son’s vehicle. One of my visiting rules is life goes on as normal. I am not into sight seeing AT ALL.

Ok!

But we will be looking out for a TKG Take Ten for you all this evening!

Talk soon.

  1. Glad you made it and I’m looking forward to more of your trip. And hooray for an upgrade!

  2. I am astounded at the way that you always seem to get upgrades when you fly! What is the secret? Very glad you can now just relax and enjoy. Please tell Leroy that at some point he must simply be a cow and stand still while looking deeply into the lens. He will be our connection to animals for this trip and TKG readers do love their animals 🙂

  3. I don’t understand why you went from Bloomington IL to Dallas-Fort Worth to get to Calgary? Seems to me like the plane took a wrong turn SW on a NW flight…..lots of flying in the wrong direction, no?

  4. Glad you’ve arrived and can now relax and enjoy your stay. Getting there is the stressful part. As my retired Boeing boyfriend says, the Max was Boeings’ fault, but the tire blowouts, the panel coming off and some of those other issues are airline maintenance. Plus, the plane descending abruptly was human error or a flight attendant knocking into the pilot who then hit the controls. I would like to do a little sightseeing because I’ve never been to that area of Canada.

    • It is always good to hear what the people in the know say. HUman error is something that preys on the mind -it really is a thing. I often laugh awhen people say travel safely – I say – I don’t think that is up to me! Up to the pilot really.

  5. Good to hear that you got there with only a little bit of difficultly. I think that getting to your destination is the absolutely worst part of traveling. It doesn’t matter how you get there, plane, car, ship, horse, or foot getting that part out of the way is the real beginning of your time out of time (which a vacation no matter how short or long should be). Take care.

  6. I usued to love flying because it was usually the prelude to FUN! These days I dislike the process of long distance travel at the best of times, but planes are a special purgatory because there’s something about the seats that always makes my back hurt more than usual. That said, the arrival (and the relief of getting out of my seat) is always wonderful. I’ve always said “travel in safety, arrive in health” rather than “travel safely”. It’s a small difference, but seems to wish that you are surrounded by care as you voyage. Stay warm, stay well, give Leroy an ear scratch for me.

  7. Ugh, waited 45 mins on the tarmac the last time I traveled as well! Glad you got there safely. Enjoy 😀

  8. I’m picturing the stuff to leave behind delicately, so as not to gum up the process, melting off your shoulders in layers. Breathe and let it go.
