This morning I am a little late posting because we went up to the Kananaskis River to surf early this morning.
Yes. You read that right. They surf here.
There are days when the dam up river releases water, the times are released on the dam site and the locals have made their own little down river beaver dam creating waves for the few hours the water is running.
It’s a bit of a walk in but well worth it.
It looks super fun!
Wild to be able to surf on a river. With the banks lined in snow.
Just don’t forget to bring your refillable water bottle to the water!
Of course I did not surf. Because I wanted to take a TKG Take Ten video which will come out this evening at 5pm Central (USA) Time. HERE. And is my second-to-favorite Canada video. Though I like them all or I would not publish them at all! 🤭
Here is what I saw hiding in the bush yesterday!
Elk:
These are big animals. And you know the rules – do not approach the wildlife. Though they were pretty chill. And quite close to the walkway.
Here is yesterday’s TKG Take Ten video. And while I was shooting. These guys were crossing the river. (Below) I saw them when I stood up to stretch.

What an amazing place to call home for someone who clearly loves the outdoors like your son. I have not seen an elk in years and years and it was likely in a local nature preserve. My father used to hunt elk. It made me sad even as a child. I would not be a good hunter I think.
I would not be much of a hunter either. They are very big. I had no idea.
We have a wildlife center nearby and in the fall I like to go hang out and listen to the elk bugle. A haunting ethereal sound. I’m not a hunter (I live trap mice for Pete’s sake) but people in my family are, elk meat is one of my favorites. Years ago a friend’s husband brought home elk meat, she had never been able to eat beef, she had some kind of allergy, but she could eat the elk, no problem.

I watched an episode on PBS last evening about rabbits and hares. Quite a lot of it was filmed in Canmore in 2020. Apparently there was an over abundance of rabbits in the town.
Is that still the case and have you seen bunnies everywhere?

What a great day! Loved watching those lads on the water. Some people surf in the rapids of the Ottawa River just outside of Ottawa. Amazing to watch them there too. Thank you for sharing the beauty of the spring out there.
it is springy! And snowy. Not as springy as the farm will be when I get back.

Talking of surfing in unlikely places, did you ever hear of the Severn Bore while you were in the UK. It’s a unique tidal bore formed by maritime tides being forced into the ‘funnel’ of the Severn’s mouth, which causes a series of *big* waves to roll all the way up the river.
