Cat Ladder

The ladder of cat joy.

Cat on a ladder

The old, long, once-red ladder rises from the ground up to the little window into the hay loft. A walk up into where I store the straw. A cosy spot. We call it the Peacock Palace. From this window I can throw down straw for the pigs.

The ladder (and the landing behind it) are favourite spots for cats because the window faces South which in this hemisphere is the sunny side of the barn. Sitting at the top of the ladder on the sunny side is a prime spot for a little bit of bird watching.

Dogs in front of fireplace.

When we have sun that is. There has been no sun yet – not this week anyway. I arr bed back from Canada into a storm and it is still rainy and windy. In fact yesterday was a slushy mess of snow and rain and fog – so the dogs decided to stay in, reclining in front of the fireplace.

Watching the world go by from their favorite cushions.

Have a lovely day!

  1. Once upon a time I lived in a large Notting Hill basement flat (it was very cheap back then). One day builders came and put up scafolding right up to the 4th floor roof. Unbeknown to me, my orange cat decided to climb up all the vertical ladders to the top. He went missing for 2 days, until a neighbour on the 4th floor found him under her bed!

  2. cats and dogs getting maximum comfort in their own ways. Today l met a fine figure of a pig, it was an Oxford Sandy and Black Pig, also known as a Plum Pudding or an Oxford Forest Pig. One of the oldest British pig breeds, having existed for around 200/300 years. Big handsome fellow.
