Relocation Day: To another Beach! SURPRISE! 😂

Today a couple of kids and I are going to drive up the beach to another little beach house!

The blue dot is where I am this morning – and this afternoon we will be toddling up to Ōtaki Beach. There we will be joined by more family and old friends.

Yesterday morning after our cooking lesson – we call this a hooligan (Dutch Baby sounds weird. And it was eaten up with delight. Though both boys decided they liked omelettes better), we walked up our Peka Peka Beach again for the last time this visit. I will be back in a few weeks on my way out of the region.

I hope you are not bored with beaches yet!

I am not. Nor ever will I be bored with beaches. I have never really gotten over the knowledge that I probably will never achieve my dream of owning a little shack on a beach. Not in this life. But maybe I lived out my last days on the seashore in another life. Hopefully a parallel life.

The weather has continued to be mild. That southerly ran through in squally fashion. Like a blind thief knocking stuff over on his way out.

Watch this gentlemen with his incredibly well behaved dogs.

If you are enjoying our travels – please share. I bet there are other real people out there who would love to spend some peaceful time with us.

I had a couple of Tenners write and tell me that yesterdays TKG Take Ten was so relaxing that they felt their eyes close. Objective Achieved! There is way too much noise milling around our heads – taking a ten minute relaxing break is good for the soul.

HERE it is. Beach Time.

And more to come.

Have a lovely morning/afternoon/evening.

You will have noticed that I have suspended the Sustainable Sunday newsletter while I travel. It will be back – I am making notes. And collecting more stories. This is a free newsletter so please feel free (see what I did there?) to sign up. It will be back in June.

The new Sustainable Home website I was working on has been taken down. There were just too many problems with it. Plus the workshops just cannot work with my terrible internet out on the farm. Now I am planning on incorporating a Sustainable Home PAGE right here. Just so we can keep up to date on useful products and protocols to maintain a sustainable and earth-friendly lifestyle.

Sone plans work – some don’t – I am over it.

Follow me on Instagram (cecilia_thekitchensgarden) and UTube (Cecilia Gunther). Both of these sites are pretty laid back.

Join The Tenners for five days a week of 10 minute calm gentle nature and farm videos.

And I would be ever so grateful if you could SHARE your favourites! I love a good share.

  1. Hi Celi. I will be on Kapiti in 2 days with my elderly dog friend. We might drive to Peka Peka one day to walk that beach. Enjoy Otaki for a couple of days.

  2. I love this post!! The photos feel so nostalgic. I am re-entering the blog space after quite some time off. Where are you located? It reminds me of South England but the names sound more like BC?

  3. We live out in the weeds somewhat, and have always had problems with slow internet. Then I got a new cell phone with Verizon and part of the deal was 5G internet service. It is a little pricy, but it really works well, even if you only can get 4G. It is very fast and extremely reliable. It is a little 6″ square cube that sits next to to the computer and can be hard wired or wireless connected. If you have poor internet, it might be worthwhile to check out. It is the best internet service we have ever had.

  4. Ōtaki Beach has a charming local community with shops, cafes, and accommodations catering to visitors. The nearby Tararua Ranges offer opportunities for hiking and exploring the surrounding countryside. To learn more, click here.
