Dual Personalities

Marsh and Sea.

The clash of sea, stones, driftwood and flowing river and tributaries makes this area super interesting.

Looking from land across a river across another spit of land out to sea then over to Kapiti Island makes our brains work to make sense of it.

In my mind – swans don’t belong so close to the shore yet there they are.

This morning, after a night bathed in the light of a bright full moon, the day has dawned clearer and (I think) a little calmer. I can hear the magpies and the Tui from my morning writing spot – in bed of course, talking to you always comes first – and there is a significant decrease in wind noise.

Magpies in the morning is the most New Zealand sound to me. They are not native. In fact they were introduced to help the farmers with pests in the pastures. The farmers who had cleared the native bush full of birds then introduced other birds. The irony escapes no-one. However I do love their sounds. They remind me of the farms of my childhood.

Have a great day! I am going to pack our breakfast and hot coffee in mugs and go onto the beach to get this mornings TKG Take Ten. I have another family with me now. The changing of the guard. They laughed about it last night as we all had dinner together.

I hear children waking!

Take care and Talk soon.

  1. Magpies! There are hundreds living near me – I often get up to “Thirteen beware it’s the devil himself”. I believe that the inteloper rabbits, again introduced by colonials, are due to be eradicated…

    • I think these may be Australian magpies, which have a melodious song, rather than the British variant. Yes, the rabbits, foxes, deer, pigs and goats introduced by the colonials have a lot to answer for, both in NZ and here in Australia.

  2. So happy that you do reach out to us, The Fellowship, each morning! What a joy to read of your adventures and the happenings of your families and friends far away. A real treat! And how special and wonderful for you all to be immersed in nature and the love for one another! Thank you for taking us along! xoxo

  3. I have just come from watching a pair of swans on the far shore of our bay. New home – apartment in the sky on the shore of Lake Ontario – instead of our little hobby farm. I have a new spotting scope that helps me turn the teeny tiny trails on the water into the birds making them. I’m loving being able to watch the swans and the Buffleheads and the ducks.
