I sat Down for a Minute

I cleared out some old dead(ish) bushes from the front of the house and so Tima has shifted camp to under the hydrangea (which is a disaster for the hydrangea) but Mayes for a cute picture!

Happy Fourth of July for those who observe.

I was chatting to one of my junior farm hands yesterday. Something about starting chores at 5.30am then I come in to write then I go out until morning chores are done (about lunchtime).

He is eight years old. And always hungry. He was leaning on the counter playing with the ice tongs as I made his cousin a cup of coffee.

He thought about this for a minute then creased his brow and said “Do you go outside every day?” This was a revelation to him that some people went outside every day! Voluntarily.

I sat down for a minute – outside the barn – and this happened:

And yes, they had all been fed already.

Off to work for me. 6.10 am now. After the animals I will weed the pumpkin patch before it gets too hot.

These really are lovely temps! And maybe a little sprinkle today to keep my pig weed garden growing! Fingers crossed.

  1. “Do you go outside every day?” made me smile. I get irritable and feel tired unless I go outside at least once during the day.

And with a new puppy on the way, outside trips are going to become a lot more frequent.

  2. Great picture of Tima!

Believe it or not, I know some people who are my age and they don’t go outside every day. I think it’s necessary for my sanity 😉

  3. Imagine that some people spend most of their time indoors, if they can! Your little helper is lucky to have the option of both. How many other people don’t have that choice!

      • Think of all the people who live in apartments or condos in the cities. Their time outside is necessarily limited, or confined to strrts, sidewalks, an pavement everywhere. Open space, as on a farm, or in rural areas, is hard to access from inside city developed areas.

  4. Imagine that some people spend most of their time indoors, if they can! Your little helper is lucky to have the option of both. How many other people don’t have that choice!

  5. Loved all of today’s photos! I can’t imagine not going outside at every opportunity, whatever the season.

  6. I’m thinking that when you sit down for a minute the animals move in to be close to you! And that makes sense! Wonderful pics! 🙂

  7. Kids say the most honest and best things don’t they? So totally open to just saying what’s in their head! The pictures all made me smile and laugh this morning especially Boo with his stick. That reminded me of younger days because he looked so proud and happy. How many pictures over the years also of Ton Ton carrying a stick everywhere. You make such a glorious life for your animals C!

  8. Ton was too tired yesterday to come out so to play- later I found my youngest helper inside with the dog, reading. Ton appeared to be looking at the pages with him. It was a very sweet tableau.

  9. I love the way my 4 year old grandson’s mind works and the questions he asks me. Those temps are very nice. Ours will be in the 90s for a while; thankfully, it will be temporary. (I hope!) Many here don’t have central A/C so hot weather can be miserable.

  10. Even prisoners are let outside for a time every day. I have read it is almost essential for best health to go outside for 20-30 min. every day. The photos are priceless today. Tima & Boo are prize winners!

    • Me too Michelle! I don’t remember not being outside all the time even in bad weather my friends and I would play in the garage with the door open or under the covered patio. The experiences of so many youngsters is very different today…and those words definitely reflect what it’s like to be among the Boomer generation 🙂
