Almost but Not Quite

Yesterday I almost wrote you a blog post to tell you I was not writing a blog post because I was feeling a little under the weather, then as I began to write the blog post to tell you I was not writing a blog post I realized how inside out that all sounded out so I stopped.

Instead I sat in bed to recover and worked on systems. Including a new system to absorb all the new old expired food we are receiving for the farm. All the veg and bread buckets are brought up to the porch then feed out buckets are constructed and labeled or fed out. Even the cows get left over bread and cabbage once a day.

My helpers are practicing their routine for when I am away:

While they worked – pretending I was not there to test the list, I hauled out the tractor and scraped clean the cows concrete pad. I had to work very slowly because the cows like the tractor and refused to be gently moved on. There was a lot of waiting for a break in the bovine traffic and at one point I had to nudge a cow with the full tractor bucket but I got the whole yards cleaned. That will help with the flies.

We have summer people arriving today – from Texas this time – so that will be nice.

Good morning. We had an overnight low last night of 55 – which is a wee bit chilly. You know when you are in bed and it has gotten cold but not quite cold enough but you don’t want leave the last warm spot to go and pull down a blanket.

That kind of cold.

Time for me to go and walk around the property so I can find a signal to publish this post.

Watch out for the Sustainable Sunday Newsletter! On Sunday! It is a great way to get all up to date all in one go. It is where I edit what I write before I publish. The blog is a fast stream of consciousness- we like it that way!

Have a great day!

  1. I love that your rest in bed includes working on systems. Even when you’re sick, you’ve got energy! How I admire that. Hope you are feeling better.

  2. Your logic about blogging to then not blog made me laugh but I can also relate. I can also totally understand the toughness of the decision to move to get a blanket or simply push farther into the bed. There is always something at the end of my bed just in case! The turkeys lying still and quiet in the dappled sunlight- we haven’t seen that in some time. Maybe they were a bit low as well? Take care C.

  3. Well maybe your not feeling well will help in the long run. You get time to think (and maybe rest a bit) about the schedule for your workers and a chance to have a couple of run-throughs for them doing it without you, with just your schedule to work from. That should make things run more smoothly during the time you are away.

The blue wing tip of that dark colored duck really pops! Love it.

Take care and give yourself time to get back up to full power.

  4. I looked up the Just So Stories to see if Rudyard Kipling had writen one on how the turkey got it’s gobble, but turkeys seem to have been neglected. They take a lot longer to grow up than a duck!

    I love those little pigs!

  5. Speedy recovery, l would like to say take it easy but l know it would fall on deaf ears! Love those nosy black snouts🖤(Huge apologies if this appears twice)! X

  6. Yes love the expression in the eyes on that one little black piglet in the close-up. And enjoy seeing how darn organized you are with your list of chores legibly written. I try, but…

  7. That’s a LONG list! However, I think of my own instructions with only one cat and they are also detailed. I like to cover all the “ifs.” The snuggling piglets are SO cute. I love cold sleeping so I’m happy when nighttime temps are in the 50s. They are here too!
