For some extraordinary reason – puddles have better water than bowls. Especially in the rain.

The retirement home for chooks is growing!

Though this one black chicken in the front of the above shot is a layer. When we sort out the hen house she will go back in.
Some of the roosters are being re-homed to somebody’s grannie’s freezer. I hope.

The cows and their breakfast.

And a very rare picture of Ton. Usually he is asleep on his sheepskin in the big room. Yesterday he spent quite some time sitting in the sun. He was happy. He does not hear or see very well but still responds to the warmth of the sun. Bless.
Go HERE to TKG TAKE TEN. To see the sunset. It was a beautiful sunset before the clouds all drew in and the rain started. Again. There is a lot of very relaxing bird song too as the birds find their night time perches.
There is talk of snow tomorrow. 🤭
Yesterday I was working in a T-shirt. Go figure.
Today R and I will lead FreeBee and Jude across to their winter quarters. Already they are knee deep in mud in their summer field. And Jude needs a rest from the steps up and down into the root cellar.
Keeping our fields in good repair is important and pigs trotters are like stilettos.
That will keep us busy today.
Have a good one.
Celi
PS. TKG Take Ten is Free to all this month! Then it will duck back behind the pay garden wall and I will trial a lovely, lovely new TKG Take Ten idea that we will continue while I am in Melbourne. I leave in two and a half weeks.
You are very welcome to join in the shenanigans. The subscription is still at the low low price of $5 a month. Join HERE.

I think the laying chicken misses her old friends, or just needs a break from the hustle and bustle of being a working chicken 😉 So good to see Ton enjoying himself.
Its good to see a photo of Ton. He has an elegance in repose, dear old fellow. I hope you are safe & cozy from the stormy weather out your way, Deb, & will remain so….Here all is sunny, bright, & going to 70 here after pouring rain in the night.
All is well, thank you! We got very little impact where I’m at but just north they really got hit hard. The wind lasted only about 1 hour here and it wasn’t much at all- a mild storm for us thankfully.
Ah so you are to get snow? Winter quarters are calling, lots of work for you and R though. Lovely Ton looking alert in the sunshine. Make the most of it Ton.
Wonderful photographs….and Ton is gorgeous:)
It’s just like wine – the flavour is in the soil 😉
tom is so handsome
Good to see Ton out and about. I couldn’t help but smile when I saw him in the background of the pic of the Duke earlier in my reading. He earned his retirement, I think.

It’s snowing here now. There’s an old saying: blessed is the person who has earned the love of an old dog. When I dump the duck’s little pool the chickens come running for a drink – they have perfectly good water bowls, go figure.
Right? Maybe it is a nutrient thing. We have your left over snow now.
We have more snow to send, looks like a freakin’ blizzard out there right now. Just came in from morning chores – bleah.
It has arrived! Blowing in. – and you be careful out there by yourself going chores.
Great photo of Ton. So good to see him out enjoying the sunshine.
Yes. When he feels the sun he just plonks down. He is in by the fire today!
I think animals tend to share natural water sources because if one is drinking, others think it must be safe, and there’s enough water to put safe space between everyone. We’ve had big thunderstorms, and now the chooks are unhappy because they have to dodge the puddles!
