gardens, farms, beaches, kitchens

What more could we want.

Beach Garden

Fourth Son has a really big vegetable garden. Very close to the beach. He is able to work remotely three days a week which means on his lunch break he can hurry out to munch his way through the garden as he does garden things.

Prices for veg are high in New Zealand and Australia and are rising in the USA too, so it is brilliant to see a real garden growing a families worth of vegetables. This can be done. During this late summer period they are getting a lot of this produce into jars.

He is also making salt! With buckets of sea salt water. The sea salt is super tasty. This process is a work in progress but exciting to follow.

He has a very full and productive plastic house.

Summer Sauce.

Of course I am making a summer sauce that I cooked right down to make a pizza sauce for Saturday pizza with the kids.

I served a bowl of it hot with dinner and it was scooped up.

Farm views

In Illinois the sap is flowing. The sun is out. Our John and his kids have the farm well in hand.

The pond and the fish are safe and well. Spring is on its way we hope!

Beach

Once I finally got to the beach yesterday I took the biggest breath of the clean salty air.

These are not my dogs but encapsulated the beach scene for me.

Beach debris is all present and correct.

I will send this to you now! It took a while to get all these images corralled and fixed and loaded so I am late in posting.

Yesterday I was having too much fun making meatloaf and summer sauce and just relaxing.

Have a gorgeous day!

  1. His garden is doing quite well! Summer sauce looks delightful, a quick disappearance is not a surprise. The lovely face of Tima! Love the beach shot and the “debris’”. Patti

  2. That’s a fantastic garden and great veggies!

It’s lovely to see the Plop Plops and Tima.

Do post your meatloaf recipe – I’m sure it’s good!

  3. I think you have taught your kids well on the ways of gardening. Plenty of room for a few animals to be roaming around 4th son’s land as well perhaps! So very glad to see Tima and the Pops looking healthy and being themselves. You just know Tima is saying “where is my food” with that face 🙂

  4. fantastic and just the right time to visit New Zealand this year. Looking back at your post since I started logging in 2011 which is about the time you started, I can’t find any recipe for that summer sauce. Can you please repost it? I’m looking forward to going to the coast for eight days in March and so I’ll get to walk the beach with the very old Daisydog.

  5. amazing and I love the salt-making! your son takes after you and the summer sauce is a winner! have you every thought about relocating and having a farm in this part of the world?

  6. Love the look of that summer sauce and it seems so versatile! I think we all need to start up gardens, especially in the U.S. where our food supply is threatened by the insanity and cruelty of our current administration. 😦 The beach/ocean is my happy place. There is something so soothing about the sounds and smells.

    • the beach is my best place too. And I do agree- this year the prices of food are going to skyrocket especially if sanctions are applied though with everything else going on I have lost track of that threat.
