bye bye beach

Leaving the beach is hard on a beach girl.

Leaving all these NZ kids even harder. But this time I am not going far. I will be only across ‘the ditch’.

But there are no other beaches on my travel horizons. Unless we drive out to a Melbourne beach. But driving to the beach is just not the same.

Today I travel into Wellington for a day to repack my bags, then Thursday if all goes well I am off to Melbourne.

I tell you what – I am tired. When I get to Melbourne I am going to happily unpack everything and settle down for a while. My carry on has not been UN-packed for almost a year.

Here is the link to this weekends Kitchen’s Garden Travels Newsletter.

I am talking about making salt here in New Zealand at the same time as we are tapping the maple trees to make maple syrup.

Also here 👆🏽is the last chapter of Winnie the Pooh. 😢. What’s next I hear you ask? I will be reading to you but not a bedtime story. A beautiful old book – it’s a surprise. So hold your horses!

I am setting up the outside room as a studio and will start reading next week.

Word is, everyone is good in Illinois. All the animals are ‘good’. They don’t use a lot of words out there in the rural Midwest.

Have a gorgeous Monday in the USA and a lovely Tuesday here in New Zealand. And get ready to begin the garden at the Compact Kitchens Garden – a city garden with a country heart – in just a few days.

Travel and set up days might disrupt our posting routine but we will see! I may only miss Wednesday. It should be ok!

Love Celi

  1. Good to hear that you are heading toward a resting spot although I know you won’t really rest. Visiting is good but it’s nice to be able to settle down and concentrate in the same spot for a while. We’re coming off of three days of really pretty good (semi warm) weather. So I’ve gotten a little bit done towards lightening my load of work coming once spring really arrives.

    Take care.

  2. I’m so excited you’ll be over our side of the ditch very soon. Lucky she doesn’t live in Brisvegas, given that Cyclone Alfred is showing an unnatural attraction for that stretch of the coast! With luck, I may have a parcel to send you later this week. When you get a minute, email me the address?

  3. I know the feeling of leaving the beach and ocean. It will be nice to settle in though and unpack your bag for awhile. Looking forward to the surprise book.

  4. Gosh, it must be difficult to say goodbye to that lovely beach! Such gorgeous pictures. Makes me long for the ocean here in my landlocked state. Settling down with your daughter and soon to arrive grandbaby will be wonderful. I’m looking forward to gardening tales from the ‘Land of Oz.’

  5. I hope all is well with you and your daughter, Celi. I saw the news about Melbourne flash flooding and wild weather knocking out power and thought of you, especially as the blog has been quiet for a few days.
