a little archives, a little gardening, a little yesterday

First some farm pictures – from Rhonda. Just in this morning.

I am in the same boat as you now. Watching my farm from afar! Watching the cows watching the Pops.

Here is the link in case you want to read your comments.

Piles of snow. Wonderful. All day yesterday it resolutely melted into the fields. Good snow.

Of course now I am watching Charlotte like a hawk for any signs of pregnancy.

Which belly do you think is the pregnant one.  Charlotte is just over four weeks pregnant now. Maybe it is a little too early to tell. She is due on June 17. OK, it is too early to tell. A ways to go yet.

Once again I had Kupa’s tail brushing against the top of my head as he waited in the barn for the snow to leave. He will not move when I push through the feathery curtain but his head swivels down  and he purses his beak at me.

Below you can see my summer table and seats, waiting beside the barn. Waiting for the sun to shine. We should call it the corner of Godot.

I guess we had lots of snow that year.

We are time traveling today. The archives. Today on the farm. This morning in the ‘burbs.

Here in Melbourne – in the suburbs – today I will mow the front lawn. We have an electric mower so I plug it in in my bedroom and pass the cord out to myself through the window. I will add the clippings to the back portion of our new garden bed. (It is so silty) and then we have a trip planned to the Tip Shop. We are looking for little tables and maybe even a chair or two for outside. I need a desk for my studio and a potting table. I don’t mind how they look. Four legs will do me. And of course ceramic pots. You never know.

We never got to the Tip Shop/Dump Shop last week as it was closed. So disappointing. Hopefully we find some surprises.

The moon setting to the West as the sun rises in the East.

That is the highest tree around. I am fairly sure it is a gum. The cockatoos love it. They are so loud. Loud and raucous. For such beautiful birds. And thieves apparently! They can strip a fruit tree bare in minutes – and steal tomatoes – so I am told.

Do you see them high in the tree?

And here is a kangaroo Daughter saw on her way to work.

Kangaroos still enchant us – being from New Zealand and all!

Watch this space! I hope to be working on this space this weekend.

21 days until the Baby Party! I better get a wriggle on. I hope to have the garden at ‘ the beautiful work in progress’ stage by then!

You all have a lovely day.

Go here to read yesterday’s words and listen to more of The Blue Castle. There are pictures too!

  1. Fabulous archives – Old Dog, a young Ton Ton, Charlotte, Kupa and I think Queenie, then the new cows and Pop Pops. Those Pop Pops are looking bigger!

I’m sure the garden will be looking great for the baby shower.

  2. You are doing a great job of peeking back in time – and back over the big waters to the farm – and forward to being Nanny Granny. I loved the cockatoos. How intriguing to live around such different species. Do people spot kangaroos there the way we spot deer here in Canada?

  3. It’s so much fun to see the Farmy ‘back in the day’! And the treehouse! And Big Dog! And on the other side of the world, cockatoos and kangaroos!!! So amazing! And your city garden is really coming into being absolutely wonderful! So exciting! I’m loving your adventures in Oz!!!

  4. Hellooooooo! What a lovely around the world post. The pictures of the sun setting and rising at the same time are so beautiful. I love that. And I love that we will see an evolution take place in that garden on the other side of the world. Where your hands get to work, amazing things always seem to happen. An artist with her favorite canvas. Be well! Wishes for a happy day to all, from finally sunny Milan (we’ll take it as long as it lasts 😉 )
