the city garden. farm matters. focaccia

City Garden with a country heart.

Daughter’s baby shower is in a little under two weeks and I am getting close to having the backyard ready.

Though I will have to uncover the anti animal detritus off the beds on the day. At present I am still working around the dog and cat who are loving that soft soil.

TimTam and KitKat are determined to be useful!

The garden above 👆🏽 is planted up in ranunculus, anemones and freesias. Awaiting roses. There will be a low garden meandering around the bottom of the raised beds too, this will soften the raised beds corners.

But I won’t start that until after the party. Look at that cat!

Back in Illinois.

The farm is puddling along. The garlic is up apparently, did I tell you? Though I do not have photographic evidence yet.

All are present and accounted for except FreeBee who has taken to taking down fences to get to the open field (last week she was going under the fences), he will not stay in, and might have to be transported to the Manu’s pig pen on the other side. John is reaching the end of his resources.

The ducks are doing ok! But have to stay inside until FreeBee is sorted.

Spring is springing.

The city

I found another playground. An old one.

Still within walking distance. It was on our morning walk. There was a teenager on the swings in her pajama bottoms, bed hair and bare feet and T shirt, lazily swinging, scrolling on her phone, so comfortable that she was hands free as she drifted to and fro, slicing high through the air of a quiet cul de sac. Floating high out on the silent morning.

I made fresh muesli then more cookies from the old muesli for Daughter to take to work.

The focaccia recipe is written up. Recipes take time – they have to be exactly right. HERE it is.

I will write the muesli recipe up again. It is – after all – the basis of the cookie recipe. Stand by for that.

Daughter keeps these cookies in her drawer at work and nibbles on them and shares them with the other pregnant police officers during the day. They are heaving with fibre, fruit and nutty protein so a really good balanced food.

In my opinion.

First flowers in a vase.

Having blooms arranged in a glass of water is as old as forever and every bit as satisfying.

Don’t forget to train your own algorithm. They can be dragons if they are allowed to takeover.

Good morning! Have a lovely rest of your day. It is early. 7am ish as I post. High of 22C (70F) today, here in Melbourne.

Going out to water, then walking the dog, then I will write up muesli and then MERINGUES!

  1. That looks like a lovely little garden – much nicer than the sun burnt scrub that my parents had in Wagga Wagga back in 1980.

…and ducklings – how fantastic! I hope they don’t get abducted by aliens 😉

  2. I am loving following you getting to know the area and finding and sharing different things. A teenager in her pyjamas on a swing – how that brings great pictures to mind.
