The last January Walky on the Farmy

TonTon and The Big Dog waiting for the walkies to commence.  And no, I did not pose them that way.  Big Dog is untrainable. You will note TonTon’s beseeching expression. The Big Dog still rules the roost and is obviously muttering mean threats. WHO is the housekeeper around here I want to ask. Does she never clean? Though in her defense I will add that this looks suspiciously like a dog SHOOK itself AT the window.  That kind of clean window vandalism is hard to keep up with.

No leaves for a few months yet. Still January, do not be fooled by the weather.  February is coming.

I did put my lettuce was put out in the sun yesterday and it was thrilling watching those little green leaves reach up to the sun. Though they had better not reach too far or I will be harvesting nothing but stalk!  My faithful wee  sparrows love the sun too.

As do Son Of Neanderthal Man and his First Wife. Apparently in their hurry to get out into the sun, they forgot to put their feet on this morning.

Big Fat Mama who frankly is not nearly fat enough and Moaning Mia were led into the Rat House Paddock for a bit of fresh kai, well kind of fresh, more like old tough grass left over from last year, but they were happy.

So Daisy is peering Up at me. She has a two door stable door.  From outside she managed to knock her top door closed, leaving the bottom door open.  Now she wants to come back inside and be a nuisance but cannot fit through the small low gap in her door. She wedged her head under the top door and was trying to break in that way.   It seems pleading looks abound today.

Here is one of the bee hives in the flowerless bee garden.  Waiting for summer.  Just like the rest of us. I can just imagine all those little bees sat on the edges of their little bee chairs in their little Bee Court and The Queens spokesbee saying Almost February People – Over Halfway Now  and clapping all their little bee wings.  It will be warm enough for them to fly out for a toilet break today (they do not have a lavatory in the hive, so that will be a great relief I am sure) and there are plenty of puddles around for a drink, so they will be pleased.

It is already 43F! We have had a Hawke’s Bay winter so far.  I love this winter. Today it is forecast to reach 53F.  It is dawning clear with a breeze and we are preparing to take all the John’s plants out for an airing and some sun later on!

Good Morning.

  1. Morning C: your b hig freeze has come over here. Yesterday 2000 passengers were marooned for 4 hours in a train with no power, thus no heating and electronically operated doors permanently locked, thus no loos! And this was only about 50 miles from here.

    • he is a handsome devil. the only way i got that shot was that he was on the other side of the door or he would have taken off, he hates the camera! c

  2. Your temps are positively tropical by comparison; we’re struggling to rise above -3C today. Struggling! And a few snow flurries this morning, too.

Oh, yes: good morning, Daisy! and to all the farmy friends of Celi. 😀

    • They are all having a grand day laying about in the sun, poor you in that cold though. Your bread looked fantastic today by the way.. I could do with a slice of that! We are out of bread so i shall start another tonight.. c c

  3. When my dog Bailey was alive, there was always a large smear of what we affectionately call “Pupkiss” on the sliding glass door right at nose level. It took some real scrubbing to get it cleaned off. Though I don’t know why I bothered, as it would reappear almost immediately. It was all over the window of the car where Bailey rode, too! Nice walkies this morning! I am excited to start my celery, leek and onion seeds on the window seats later this week.

  4. I can just picture those bees sitting on the edges of their little bee chairs clapping their bee wings. This has the makings of a children’s picture book. I am serious. Then, again, much of what you write and photograph has high potential for print publication. I am, again, absolutely serious.

  5. Chuckle. The looks on the dogs’ faces are priceless. Lovely to see the animals enjoying the sun, especially the chooks without their feet. Your weather still seems pretty chilly to me. It’s 9.46pm here and 31C ie about 88F

  6. Good morning. It looks like you have a beautiful bright blue sky there. And the photos are wonderful, the expressions on the dogs faces, well I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like it before now!

  7. I loved this – so vivid in its imagery. And I have the same problem with some glass doors – always covered in paw and nose prints in our case. Do hope the bees managed to get out for their ablutions!

  8. G’mornin, Celi! I never tire of these walkies, ya know. I can’t believe your seedlings have sprouted and you’re treating them to some fresh air and sunshine already. Spring is definitely on the way — and if February has any sense, it will just get out of the way of the inevitable. (Fingers crossed.)

  9. Good morning, c. I’m not good at Fahrenheit conversions, we are sitting above 10Celsius today.. and will be warm all week. I’m enjoying this and have begun wearing spring clothes, even though I know it won’t last. Your first photo made me chuckle, I didn’t think it was an actual window, I thought, “Well, c has gone and found herself a really cool vintage filter software for her photos, I wonder which one she used?” 🙂 xoxo Smidge
