The visitors decided to hang out in the barn yard.
Queenie mooched about chatting with the girls.
And the boys. It was a lovely laid back evening with a glass of wine in the newly cleaned yards. Everyone could join in. Unless you are a pregnant sheep.
Then No partying. Oh I remember those days Mama. For the pleasure of being round, over pregnant and tired- you can have no glass of wine and no wild gallivanting about. They will probably keep you up late. Then you will have to drive them all home.
Good morning. Friends from Germany braved the gale force winds to visit the Farmy. And a lovely time was had by all.
When I have people visiting out of the blue I invariably fall back on a quiche. This base is very quick and I always have eggs and some kind of vegetable hanging around.
The base is one cup of flour, one cup of oatmeal. 1/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup of oil, pepper and salt. Press into quiche dish. This is the standard base. It is very simple. Last night’s base variation was a sprinkle of poppy seeds and a small glug of truffle oil. Then add eggs, cheese and vegetables, not necessarily in that order! I love the deep orange of the paprika against the green of the asparagus in this one too.
Good morning. We are fine and clear here with a bendy tree forecast. The yards were cleaned of all the dung heaps yesterday (just in the nick of time) and today I shall carry on with clearing out the last of the dirty straw from the back pens with a fork and a wheelbarrow. It will all go around the flowers in the gardens as I prepare each flower bed for the summer. My rule is No bare earth. Also as I push the wheelbarrow back and forth I can keep a close watch of Mama.
My little chicks are growing at the rate of knots. And yesterday Kupa wandered even further, gave himself a fright by encountering a cow and put himself to bed early.
We have begun to water the gardens. It is getting dry already.
Now while it is still calm and light I had better get to work. The house is full of sun it is so lovely to have the spring light!
Good morning. Have a lovely day.

What a beautiful quiche! We’re still waiting for asparagus here in Vermont. Quiche is always a fall-back of mine, as well, and hopefully soon I’ll try this one you posted! Thanks and have a lovely day~
Morning kathryn. let me know how your quiche turns out, it is a very simple base.. c
The asparagus quiche looks wonderful, and the spring light is lovely – it deserves a party to celebrate!
The difference in light is wonderful, we need shades again! c
Hi Celi! I’ve decided to start a “Celi Recipe File” on my computer so that I can copy and paste all your recipes I want to try in one place, instead of trying to remember what post I may have seen it in! How’s that for brilliant?!? Just a quick question about the quiche….pop it in the oven at 350 for how many minutes? I can’t wait to try it!!!
And isn’t it great when friends from round the world come and visit? We think that will be happening with us this summer! xo
marvellous, you can be my file keeper and i can refer to you then.. i really should organise it better! Yes to 350 it usually takes about 40 mins, just part the top gently with a knife to see if all the egg is cooled! I hope you like the crust, it comes out nice and crunchy.. I have been spoiled with visitors lately.. ! c
Is it me.. or does someone look like they want to taste some wine in these photos? lol. This is just the cutest post for me that made me smile. And I agree, the spring light makes the day even better 🙂
Morning kay!! c
Morning Celi, or as I should say Bon Soir. The light in the photos is lovely regardless of the wind. I love that you too have a no bare earth policy!
yes and good evening to you.. i hate to see ground drying out, it needs to be covered.. when are you going to get back to your garden!! c
It is dry! South of Chicago it is red flag area, fire hazard! Need a bit of rain with all this wind and now more freeze warnings and watches too.
yup we have freezing temps tonight again, our gardens won’t like that harold, i hope you cover your tomatoes!! c
The quiche sounds great. I like that you add oatmeal to the crust…it must not only give it a nice taste but a little crunch as well.
Thise nice big rolled oats and sometimes I add sunflowers as well, then it is really crunchy! c
I loved the quiche base, and was already tasting it…then the glug of truffle oil sent me over the moon! Lovely! Glad you had some good company and I’m sure everyone had a wonderful time. Did you all take turns watching Mama for signs of impending birth? 🙂 See you tomorrow! Debra
Morning debra, and yes there was a lot of watching. No-one could believe this sheep could actually walk! But she is still walking.. c
Hmm, how to put this delicately. Cows go right for the same thing dogs do! Lovely look quiche, love the asparagus, and great looking party.
Yes well, that cow especially! most unfortunate! c
Sounds like Kupa has struck his claim. Not that I’m looking, but, that poor stuffed little Mama! What it must be like for her. Are you prepared for bottle feeding a litter of lambies?
The quiche looks scrumptious. Not a good thing for me to view before I even started my dinner!
Busy days, greening grass, swelling bellies, yummy quiche. Sounds good.
Of course.. you had me at the quiche:) xoxo quiche! I like your crust recipe, like everything you do, you make it look so simple! xo Smidge
Thanks for sharing your quiche recipe. I’ll have to try it when I can have carbs again. Loved the line about Kupa. 🙂 We also have bendy tree weather, and fire alerts as the wind dries everything and would spread fire quickly. It was a lovely day, though, low 70s.
Fantastic looking quiche, I love the idea of the oat crust and the fact that you use oil instead of butter.
I can only imagine Kupa’s surprise at his discovery, poor guy, he is into so many surprises
I love that quiche and even like it more the fact that its so easy to make
