The new barn mousers have arrived. They came from another barn across the way that has a cat problem, and we have a mouse problem: all good. I took them up into the warm hayfilled mezzanine floor of the barn, high and safe, above the big animals, to acclimatise. When they can climb down by themselves they will be ready to join the frey.
Until then they get room service. They have no names yet. We will see what they are like first.

There is very little light direct up there and you know how I feel about the flash, so these images lack some clarity, but make up for it with cuteness. They are surely not going to be scaring any ‘meeces to pieces’ just yet. In fact the mice are probably having a good giggle.
While I was up the top, trying to capture images of the two skittish new kittens I saw Li’l Puss The Scrapper down below playing with a poor unfortunate mouse.
You kind of have to narrow your eyes and squint a bit to see him and his mouse but I am feeling very positive about the ultimate demise of this particular rodent. Good wee Scrapper. He is being called the Li’l Puss the Scrapper because he growls at all the other animals on the property.
Here is a wider view to give you some perspective. Daisy is good for perspective.
The new fence is finished. Though, as many of you know, fencing is endless.
Baby Bobby Blanc has begun to crop the outer regions of the property. We run long wires around the outside of each field and the calves are tethered to these wires and can roam up and down eating all the good stuff.
It was an absolutely and completely gorgeous day yesterday. Although our temperatures started out chilly, we climbed to warm, still and stunning. When the surrogate milkers arrived at 5.15 on the dot, as usual, I was perched on a brick, with my eyes closed, taking in the sun. Caught you sitting down, they said with surprise.
The Daily View and temperature were taken in the morning, the afternoon was much warmer.
Good morning. Thank you so much for all your good advice about NaNoWriMo. I know many of you have done it before so all your good words are very welcome. November is going to be a month of extreme time management. Time management is something I am good at though. My task over the next few days is to document my day and look for time I can steal for writing. We won’t lose the daily blog though. This is my morning ritual. I could not bear to start my day without saying good morning to you.
Good Morning. You all have a lovely day. Look for loveliness today.

On this day a year ago -One of the beach stories. Banty the Bantam Rooster. Such a funny little story. Hope you enjoy it.

Munchkin militia has arrived. Why is it the smallest cats like Lil Puss are the ones to fiercely boss the other animals around? (giggles) Love the interior barn shots. Be careful up there.
Aw, Celi. Nice to start a Monday off with a smile. If you’re entertaining suggestions for names, how about Aramis, Porthos, and Athos? You know, the Three “Mouseketeers.” 🙂
Supposed to be a better day today. Hope you get some time to enjoy it.
How brilliant, the three musketeers- though there are only two, i can zoom back and grab another one for the barn over yonder.. c
Hi Celi! The kitties are as cute as can possibly be!!! And I LOVE the shot of your barn to give perspective! So big and roomy! We are still thinking of ways we can add on to our very small, very old, red barn. I’ve got an idea for Time Management for November! You might think about making and freezing some of your Thanksgiving dishes this month and they’ll be ready when you need them next month. I’m thinking the last days of November may just be very stressful with finishing up the novel. xo
Oh you are a star, john would laugh at this because I don’t do thanksgiving, I am from NZ! I wouldn’t know how to cook a turkey if it climbed into the oven itself! The Matriarch would beat me around the head with her chair if i tried to take over Thanksgiving. Thank God!
Goodness Gracious, I thought that with 5 years in the Good Ole U. S. of A. that you would have been snatched, or pulled kickin’ and screaming into the Thanksgiving tradition here. But you’re right, it’s pretty tough to take on entirely new, very different traditions, when they never were a part of your upbringing. Do you celebrate Boxer Day??? 🙂 🙂 🙂
Anyway, how wonderful that The Matriarch is in charge of Thanksgiving! Hopefully it’s a day you can kick back and be thankful that you can just enjoy the day! xo
Boxing Day. the day after christmas, when we box up the left overs and give them to the servants? c
KITTIES!!! They are just too gorgeous for words and I want every single one of them, although Pete would not be happy about that idea. They look like fine mousers in the making C. 🙂
You could give classes on time management, you definitely have it all perfectly tuned.
Have a happy farmy day. We are still assessing our damage after the rains – there lays lots and lots of work ahead!
🙂 Mandy xo
Loving the perspective shot Celi, it gives me a real pictur eof how th ebarn i set out
to si in the sun sounds good, right now I can’t see the sea, we have a huge fog/mist that has stayed with all day, everything is strangely quiet
Oooo I’ve just re-read today’s story (from last year) and see a comment. Funny to imagine a whole year ago I’d found your blog!
It always surprises me too how long we have all been together.. c
Gorgeous little mousers you have there, and they look like they’re ready to practice at any moment! Bobby Blanc is getting so big! Have a lovely day, celi.
I love your barn. Nothing better than a hay loft in a barn, to my way of thinking. And look at those deep dark shadows. Ours are creeping through also!

They look as though they’ll be fine micers/ratters. Gypsy, my daughter’s poodle puppy and sidekick of Trigger, has shown herself to be an extraordinarily capable mouser, which is an unusual attribute in a poodle:)
The kittens are precious, of course! They don’t look like natural born killers…but they can grow into that necessary and important role! Love the view from above the barn! You take great shots…and it is nice to wish you a Good Morning in return. 🙂
When I first read the title, I thought they were going to be big, old, scruffy cats, then saw the photos and seriously laughed out loud…I know, LOL but I’m old! 🙂 They are A Dor Able!! I love your new header with the beautiful oak branch in her fall finery against that glorious blue sky!! That should be on a fall greeting card!!
Thank-you C. I will look for loveliness today!!
That wider perspective shot of the inside of the barn is one of my favorites that you’ve done I think C. It is just striking. Love it! And look at that little orange kitty…that’s the kind I want to get down the road from now. They are so cute.
How about now, there are more!! c
Little orange ones?
Any day with kittens is a perfect day!
They look like vicious mouse and rat killers to me – well one day soon… 😉
I’m glad you are putting a team back together… those new barn mousers and Li’l Puss as well as being great mousers will be great vicarious amusement for those of us currently cat-less 🙂
Nice to have new little kitties. What is that thing people call it when everything comes together…oh yeah…the Bermuda Triangle. 🙂
NOOO! We will all be lost (laughter!!) Morning Veronica..c
😉 Have a lovely day Celi. I’m taking the day off serious painting and painting some Halloween decorations – silent companions – life-sized creepy 16-17C children in period costumes. Can’t imagine having that in my nursery as a child…Then again, village festivals don’t happen around beheadings these days. 🙂
Life is weird. that is for sure.. all across the ages.. c
