How to make wonky Beeswax Candles.

Yesterday we took our wicks and prepared to make beeswax candles.

We attached the wicks to bent coat hangers so that we can dip and then hang them up for a rest on a broom handle laid between two chairs.candle-making-007

In the hot water bath we had a tin with a sweet little bear on it and in that tin there are three tall beer cans with the lids prized open in a rather rudimentary manner with kitchen utensils. candle-making-015

I can never find the right tools when I want them.  And in these tall cans was the molten wax. candle-making-020

We dipped  and dipped and cooled and dipped until we had a collection of beeswax sausages. candle-making-016

You should leave them to cure for a few days, but I have never been known for my patience, so we lit a wonky one at lunch time and we were all very excited to find that we had actually made a candle which burned for ages.

Light! What a thing. candle-making-030

Good morning. And now I must dash. I have a cow to milk and animals to feed and then I need to change into clothing more suitable for the city,(imagine if I wore my upholstered clown suit and gumboots to the city!! Ha ha ha.  Actually don’t imagine that. Too horrible!) And we don’t have time for flights of fancy,  I have to catch the early train.

If I do not pop in tomorrow morning blame ChgJohn!  But I will try! I promise!

OH! Yesterday it was announced that I had won The Writers Desk Competition over at Nancy’s beautiful blog. Isn’t that lovely! And the other entries were wonderful so I am very flattered. Thank’s to all of you who voted for me and  Thank You nrhatch. (This is how Nancy appears in our comments lounge, just so’s you know). Having a writing competition was such a fun thing to do!

Have a lovely day. I certainly will!

Here is a story I wrote exactly 12 months ago. It is a story about Love.  If you have time you might like to read it.

PS Talking of Dirty Stop-Outs Charlotte still has not called in to let us know how she is. So we are assuming no news is good news. Though Good News would have been Better.

Now, what am I doing, Lollygagging about, I have to run!!!

  1. congrats CELI i know that Missy and I voted many times , there are many times that these tactics are allowed have fun in the CITY if you like that sort of thing? me i am from California and you can keep the city’s as i hate them; obi wan was right when he described Mos Eisley as retched hive of scum and villainy would be my description of most all city’s be careful tell john to pack if he has it .

  2. I adore your wonky candles. I think I could make them, since perfect symmetry doesn’t appear to be necessary for lighting. I know you’ll have a wonderful time with John. What a delight! 🙂

  3. Did you remember to send the charger with Charlotte’s cell phone? 😉 I imagine the kids enjoyed making candles, and learning where the wax came from. What a blessing you are! Congratulations on winning the writing contest! What a wonderful day you had.

  4. Am adding my best wishes on the comp win also. Absolutely love the candles! They are like individual sculptures: for some reason i am thinking of Gaudi and Barcelona. They would fit in there as well as giving joy in the farmy. Hope you and John had a magnificent time and bought the Windy City empty [well, within reason!] 🙂 !
