All my city clothes were peeled off, stepped out of, abandoned and dropped in snail heaps on the bedroom floor as I morphed back into miss c. I will pick them all up later I promise but I was late for chores and everyone was calling. They knew they could use my guilt about being away to get more hay.
But not everything is always pretty on the farmy. I was away for 24 hours and what do I find when I get home? Someone is not sharing.
Of course as I approached this milling bunch, I thought to myself; oh look, how sweet. Kupa and the kittens are sharing.
What a lovely bunch of animals living on the farmy with me.
Then LouLou and Good Authority got just a teensy bit too close to their own cat treats and BAM! Notice that the cats do not leave the table.
Peacock Peck to the Head. Poor Author. I sent Kupa off and with a good deal of nonchalance, and in his own time, thank you very much, he condescended to leave the cats table and without a moment wasted the kittens were back to scoffing their food.

Usually they get chopped up meat so this dry nasty dried fast food is a treat.
Kupa is unrepentant. Peacocks seldom are.
Early to bed for me last night.
And early to rise this morning. Good morning. It is 11F (-11.5C) degrees outside, clear and still. The house is freezing, I guess the fires went out while I was away, we are very low on firewood now and John was out in the woods gathering more dead wood from old trees. It takes a while to warm it all back up. I am wearing all my farm clothes one on top of the other.
But thats OK. We are on the far side of winter now.
Daisy was perfectly well behaved for John when he milked her yesterday so that was a relief and when it warms up today I shall take Sheila out for a walk. She is a one woman pig that one. There are noticeable changes in Mama’s udder too which is interesting and a bit early! But you know what she is like! She likes to tease.
I will be playing catch-up and feasting on a fridge full of deliciousness for days!
Have a lovely day.

A beautiful sunrise to herald your return…and make up for Kupa’s bad behavior 🙂
Was out at a friend’s farm on Friday – she’s got lots of lambies already!
I don’t have heating in the barn so i do prefer to have the lambs a bit later. Having quads in the cold terrifies me. If she were a normal sheep that just has two or three nice fat lambs I could be more easy going. c
We think of the funny humanistic personalities associated with your animals, but in the end they are animals, after all!
yes, all jokes aside, they don’t care how we see them at all and they will all fight for their food! c
The peacock doesn’t draw blood though? Just a nudge?
No blood that I can see, just a painful peck to the noggin. The cats never run away, they just wait him out. c
I love the way they all just get along (mostly) without seeing the differences between them 🙂
Reblogged this on Ann Novek–With the Sky as the Ceiling and the Heart Outdoors.
Thank you! What a lovely sunday surprise.. c
Naughty Kupa! 😉 Can’t wait to see more photos from your trip with John and some of the lovely foods you purchased.
We were having too much fun for heaps of photos, but I begin to cook with the food today so stand by!! c
Kupa is lucky our Ginger Mac wasn’t there – a paw would have administered a smart slap alongside the head!
Kupa certainly rules the roost! Even the big cats steer clear of him. c
Naughty Kupa. Those kittens are very uncatlike to be so meek under that treatment. Lovely pictures to tell the story.
Well Kupe is a very big bird and he has a very fast and sharp beak, so they are wise to duck for cover. One of the reasons that I feed the cats meat is that the birds won’t steal it from them, the cats eat it much faster and can pick the food up and run for cover. Much more catlike.. morning Viv, i hope you are getting some sun.. c
Celi – really loved reading about the way your peacock and cats (what a combination!) interact. Cannot believe the cat just sat there and took it! So funny but I hope she was ok. IT’s lovely to read about your life there and I see you are on Twitter so I will hook up there and never miss a post of yours – thanks – Alison
Oh I am hopeless on the twitter, i must get more organised.. I do put each days post on FB though, do you have a facebook account? The kitten is fine, they always manage! good morning! c
Oh – perhaps I got it wrong – are you on Twitter? If so I can you tell me your address? Thanks
I am there, just click on the twitter button above! I will pop in now and see if i can find you too~! c
Hi C – just clicked the Twitter link on your blog but all that came up was your blog website address. I searched for you on Twitter with @thekitchensgarden but nothing there. Don’t worry though – I can easily check your posts here:) Glad the cat was uninjured – A
Hmm, well that plan did not work!! oh well.. we are in touch and that is the main thing! c
Yes – that’s fine C – I will keep on top of your blog:)
Poor little kittens.
Naughty Kupa.
🙂 Mandy xo
glad you had a good trip! what all did you buy? bad kupa….poor kitties!
I bought all the foods and spices that I cannot get down here and it is so much cheaper to shop in the city! c
You extended animal family makes me think of a book I read. now if I could only remember the name of the book…
the book of life? c
Peacocks are like that. I have to feed my barn cats in the loft. It’s the only place the peacocks can’t get into. There may not be a single bird in sight, but if I try to give the cats a bit of a treat outside of the barn, peacocks appear out of no where and send the cats skulking off.
that makes perfect sense, mine sleep above the loft so the cats are not even safe there, I am going to make a cage with hole big enough for just a cat and throw the food in there.. as soon as i get around to it though!
Kupa’s lucky that the cats are bird friendly 😉
I agree with Mad Dog
