Boo the Savage is the great returner of found objects. The Verandah is a litter of interesting finds, like a little boys pockets but with a canine influence.
I forgot to tell you yesterday that Queenie (who would not look at you for a photograph) was bred by The Lady Vet on Sunday. Easily too so that was a relief. Now we wait and see if it takes. We will see if True Grit lives up to his name. Let’s hope we have two gestating bovines.
Good morning. Yesterday a lovely lady and her daughter came to visit. She is going to help John mind the animals while I am away in Canada. Yesterday she helped me pick cherries. In my absence she would have milked Daisy (who will not dry up) too but I have re-organised Daisy’s schedule into one late in the evening milking so that John can do it after work, which will be easier on the nerves of the cow. Let’s hope she does not Kick Up a Fuss. But at 25 pounds of milk (2 1/2 gallons – about 10 litres) she is still giving way too much to be safely stopped.
You and I are off to the Rocky mountains in Eight days!
We did get rain early yesterday, so if it stays clear and dry today (so far so good) I shall turn the last little bit of hay over again this afternoon.
Our non GM corn that survived the flooding is doing very well. My animals will eat every single piece of these plants this summer. They love sweet-corn stalks.
This morning the Old Codger and I are going grocery shopping.

Goodness — 25 litres is an awful lot of milk to come out of a body, even an impressive one like Daisy’s. How on earth do they manage all that?? I like the thought of all the munching that is going to reduce those corn stalks to nothing. Are those really the same plants that we saw peeking out of the puddles?

That Boo is quite a character. A good job you have a stand-in while you are away. Life is very very hectic here and with a kaput laptop and dodgy PC, I may not be much on line in the near future, so have a wonderful time in Canada.

Love this mix of photo subjects this a.m. The hollyhocks remind me of the ones that grew next to the milkhouse on my home farm. The hat Boo carries reminds me of one my father wore. The hay rake, like the old one from the farm. Thanks for taking me back to my youthful days, as you often do.
Also, so wonderful that you are taking the Old Codger grocery shopping. Friends and extended family do that for my 81-year-old mother, too, as none of her six children live close.
He is good company, and as we both hate to go to the grocery store we should be able to get it done in quick march time.. c
Well, I just came back from Alberta and I’m so very glad you’re not going for a few more days. As you probably know, the flooding is something out of this world and downtown Calgary, may bedroom communities and all roads thru to the Rockies are closed and people have been evacuated. But I think the water levels should have crested yesterday for many of the regions and I so hope that most of it will be resolved by the time you go. 🙂
It sounds just awful, we are going up to Canmore (about an hour and a halfs drive from calgary.. so fingers crossed that we can get up there.. I will take my gumboots!! c
Oh, goodie; another trip for us. You are a lovely traveling companion with very few demands, so this trip should be as wonderful as the last one back to your home. ‘getting ready to pack!
But what shall we wear!? I will need to take work clothes too .. there is bound to be cleaning up to do after the floods.. c

Before I enter the huge intersection out in front of my home, which holds thousands of cars each day, I think and plan for my morning Kindergarten class here in San Francisco. However , even before that I read your glorious blog and remember my early days as a young girl in Iowa who lived in town but often drove along the highway observing how tall the corn was growing.Sometimes I am quite jealous of you and your wide open spaces, Celi!
That is fine Karen, maybe some of the farmy creeps into that kindergarten room. i would like that. And the corn is growing shockingly fast this year. It is noticeably taller each day.. scary! c
