The leaves are piling up and so am I.

I like the leaves, I never rake them.

The winds will come and deal with them soon enough. Until then I like the disheveled look of them. Their random falls and light shuffles. Shuffling light. Parchments and promises.

It is Saturday.  There will be lots of this!not-much-020

Sleepy time for babies. The Marmalade Cat is drinking out of a saucer now. It is a bright green saucer with an imprint of a fish on it. I felt it was appropriate.  He leaves little milky footprints all over the kitchen floor, not yet aware that we do not need our paws to assist our mouths to drink! Kneading the saucer will not elicit a rise in the tide. He is beginning to wash himself (Boo and I are intensely relieved) and has found his purr.  A good purr. Not the dying purr the happy purr.

Daisy managed to wack me in the head yesterday. My own fault entirely, I had thrown the hay into the Car Art feeder and then saw that a piece of baling twine had got itself thrown in as well. Both Daisy and I reached in at the same time to grab the hay and she grabbed a mouth full then whisked her head back and sideways sharply, to shake it free of the rest, unfortunately I was in the way. I ducked to avoid a collision grasping the twine at the same time and her 100 pound head only got me a glancing blow in the ear throwing me stumbly though almost neatly, against the fence and thankfully out of stomping range. And if there ever was a cow who would stomp it would be Daisy. I have to say I felt a little bit stupid for the rest of the afternoon. Not stupid.. as in what a stupid thing to do (which in fact it was!), but stupified and thick and tottery.  And I forgot to take any more images though the clarity of the light yesterday was intense like the pain in my ear.

No bruises or swelling. All good.  I shone a torch in my eyes to check for concussion but was  blinded by the light  so I could not see what my pupils were doing anyway. See what I mean? Not right in the head.

In a week I am going to go and spend a few days in California with my son and his family. I am going to pack my wee chilli bin bag with a variety of frozen meats, put a spare pair of knickers in my handbag and then Camera House and I will  fly across the country to the Central Valley  in California to cook and eat and chat and adventure. I will not be alone for four whole days. But I will not be leaving you alone. We will be having guests on the blog. It is a surprise – there are things being worked on behind the scenes! Busy. Busy.

I will tell you more about it next week.

Today I am going to make more soap. I love this soap!

Have a glorious day.

your friend,

  1. please take care of yourself; I love Boo and everything about your blog; I told my class about you (I teach creative writing), and on my last class handout, gave your blog handle)

    • oh my, what a lovely thing to do, i am honored, were you discussing journal writing or something? I have always wanted to be IN a creative writing class. I tried to do an internet one and it was just horrible.. I bet yours is full of flight and expression.. c

      • peoplethink mine are amazing; this is a free class that the library pays for – 4 times a year; did it for free; no it was under the heading of good writing, fascinating writing, animals with names, a blog which lowers your blood pressure; most student women, and young or head towards 50 60; it’s amazing;

  2. Damn girl I know what you need a big all terrain really tall machine you can ride around and feed these beast like they do at the wild life park(Bush Gardens) in Florida Man that must have hurt some bad. The farming will wreck you 😦

So glad you can get some time with your son in sunny CA before the weathers turns.

  3. If you were here…I would pour you a nice glass of elderberry wine! It is my medicine chest! Everything becomes less uncomfortable! 🙂 You are still alive! Yay! 😀

  4. Hmm ~ any part of the body but the head as far as I am concerned. Do take care, please! Leaves on the ground: have loved shuffling in them in autumn since I was a kiddycat. Used to drive my very neat and tidy parents crazy. Here we have to rake them immediately in summer of course. . . Oh, and love Boo’s arm across Marmalade also . . . wonder whether that is going to be a lifelong love affair 🙂 ?

  5. I hope you are recovering. I once stupidly stepped in front of a young horse, between the horse and a cement block wall. (I truly do know better.) He jerked his head up and smacked me square in the nose, bouncing my noggin off the wall. I did see stars, had a bloody nose and a black eye and about 8 months later TWO root canals for teeth that had cracked. True to form I waited it out and it got better without a doctor’s intervention until I had to go for the dental work. Now I just blame my quirks on a ‘blow to the head’! Enjoy your time away, I know what kind of prep. it takes when you have animals, it makes you appreciate every little escape all the more.

  6. Mom and Zia would kid each other that there was no need to rake the leaves. One good wind at they’d all go to the neighbor’s, meaning the other Sister’s. 🙂
I hope you’re all right after your run-in with Daisy’s head. If she does it again, maybe she should be chained alongside Boo until she learns better table manners. One doesn’t head-butt the person that feeds you. Enjoy your Sunday, Celi!

  7. I have decided I love your blog – the critters, the challenges, your outlook on life. I hope your head clears so you can enjoy CA. My son is there too and I will be seeing him some time next month.
