A wee dollop of sweetness

Marmalade was a busy little kitten yesterday.

He is a natural performer. And with all the animals I had to show the children yesterday, this wee kitten was the one who pocketed hearts in all directions.

Later, Sunday being Sunday, the dogs and I went for a long walk.

Then it being Sunday still,  there was napping in front of the fire.

Eventually.

Didn’t that look for all the world like the end bit of a rugby match when both teams lineup and with incredibly bad grace shake hands.  “Yeah right mate, I’ll shake your hand but I’ll see you in hell before I like it.”

A moulting chicken, looking like my grandmothers 50 year old well worn Axminster carpet. Someone plucked the felt out of the Feltex. Not pretty. Moulting chooks are never comfortable, they scuttle more and develop furtive chilly expressions. It will be over soon little chook,  your winter coat is growing – off you go to bed.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

  1. Your comment about the rugby team…that was my Kelsea yesterday when her ultimate frisbee team lost in the state championships to their rude arch rivals. Have a glorious day.

  2. Thank you for the cheery pics of Marmalade! Ah and then there’s Boo and his charge resting by the wood stove! Wish you were here to walk with me! I have miles and miles and miles and miles!!!!! The kids sure do love a good adventure don’t they! 😀 No sun again today. Snowed in Fargo. Just a light dusting.
No long hikes during deer season around here! You could get shot if you aren’t sporting orange head to toe! Yikes! I had a great chuckle over the pigs and sheep passing by each other! You are so funny!!! Sure looked like that was what they snickered too! 😉 Kinda like the navy and marines passing each other on leave! LOL
Kevin came back and no luck. Didn’t see even one deer. Today is another day as they say…do you have to post your land Celi? We do. Or hunters will take advantage. The ones who come from the city. The look for unposted land and if they don’t see anyone…well…when the cat’s away the mice will play even when posted clearly!
Have a great day! (((hugs))) I’m waving to you! 😀

    • I only have 8 acres, around the house. They do hunt the ditches on the big farm though, no-one minds, it is across the creek. But I do see your point about wearing bright clothing right about now. I had never thought about it before.. c

      • We have to post our land also. I could tell your terrible stories about hunters who leave open gates and the cows get out. It doesn’t matter if the hunters are after deer, ducks or birds of some sort, they just don’t care about the fences, the cows or the land. And always, always it is someone from the city who feels they have the right to be on your land. They never talk to you the rest of the year, and wouldn’t talk to you if they wouldn’t get caught.

I’ve threatened many a time to go have a picnic on their lawns, just because it’s green and I want a nice place to picnic…and heck about my trash. Of course I NEVER would, but you understand.

        • I love the idea of picnicking on their lawns, we must take big long guns though as we walk across their back yards, i mean it is only fair! I really must find my signs and some poles and put them out.. luckily with all the crops gone there is only a tiny strip right down by the creek that they even bother with. fingers crossed.. how deeply rude though to leave gates open.. awful..c

          • We have kind of the same problem here, but being surrounded by huge ranches, everything is posted. The hunters that do come around are usually the neighbors or their friends. The towns people used to come here years ago, but my DH set them straight in a hurry. Probably why they don’t talk to us, ha ha

  3. So much darn cute and sweetness!!! What a wonderful way to start the week. Marmalade and Boo….happiness in fur. Our chickens are sporting their full feathers, but they are only 5 months old and just barely mature. Our other chickens always moulted towards the end of summer. We used to have a white hen (Blanch, of course) that only lost a feather or two every day. She was our secret moulter….always looked perfectly groomed while everyone else looked half plucked, lol.
Thank you Celi for your wonderful pictures.

  4. I feel so sorry for chooks in moult. Their plumage is such a big part of their dignity, and they KNOW they look sad, scrawny and ridiculous when it’s fallen out in handfuls… Lovely photos, as always. If I had to pick rugby teams for that shot, Sheila would be ABs, and the sheep would be the Wallabies…
