The Duke of Kupa is fighting

The pneumonia is proving hard to break. He just stands in his new big cage and watches me, breathing and breathing out, hauling noisy air through his lungs. But as of yesterdays afternoon he was eating his seed mixed with yoghurt and drinking his potion, plus water. And as of this morning though I can still hear his breathing from the hall door, he is still stable.

He is in a big cage now and still on the floor of the heated bathroom.  It is hard to tell if he is physically better but I think he is breathing marginally better. And he is brighter and fought me strongly when I took hold of his legs to bring him out of his cage for his injection, and held him under my arm.   He is a strong bird. Then  he weaved his head about like a snake charmers snake trying to freak John out.  John had the needle.  And he is eating and drinking. Eating and Drinking is very good in my book. But he drags each breath in with such a rasp and such determination. He is a dogged bird. I will only bring him out for his shot once more though (today) it is too traumatic for him. If he is beginning to recover I shall put his last two doses of antibiotics in his water. He must recover.

Mama: Mama is eating like there is no tomorrow. Putting weight back on as fast as she can. Can you work out who is who? From the left: Mama, Meadow, Tilly and Minty.  Minty and Meadow may have gotton pregnant when Charlotte took the fences down that time and let Hairy MacLairy out. We will see. If it works out we call it line breeding. If not we call it in- breeding. Lets hope for the best.  No signs of pregnancy yet. But some weight is being put on!

A rather unsettling picture of Daisy. But there you are. She is not always pretty.

Tui and Pania show no signs of stress in this cold.

kupa-089It is possible that they are a little more robustly bred than The Duke of Kupa.  Common stock probably!

Still piles of snow on the ground.

Sheila and TonTon don’t mind. Off they go their walk. Though Sheila’s heels are pink with cold.

You all have a lovely day.

your friend on the farmy,

celi

I have just read that one of our most precious blog friends has lost her daughter.  She got on the train to school and then disappeared. If you are in Europe please pop over to her blog for a picture of the teenager. You may have seen her, you never know, if you have please get in touch with Rosemary. And it is possible that we can use the networksand social media  we have set up to spread the search.

  1. Where are you, Jade? Loving thoughts and love going out to you.

Pneumonia is hard for humans, takes a long time to get over and relapse is always on the horizon, Animals are no different, Main thing is warmth and no drafts, but air circulation. Would he feel less stressed with one of his kin in with him? Or within eyeshot? Wow…Daisy looks like she just saw a ghost or something. Yes, I think animals, just like humans, have such a will to live. Great care helps a lot. Celi, many could take lessons from you on how to care for animals.

  2. Hope some of the problems of man and animal will see a satisfactory result ere Yulebells peel! That a beloved child is found! That those who have fought on the farmy will win their battles . . .How much of a ‘birdbrain’ does Kupa have ~ perchance he somehow understands both how hard others have fought and how much he is part of a beloved family: surely the most important part of Christmas . . . hopefully there will be peace at Yule . . . [Oh my: hmmph – Mama sure looks healthy from topside 🙂 !]

  3. I just want to thank you for your gentle and honest and regular chronicle, and your gorgeous pictures. Hearing about the goings-on at the farmy is maybe my favorite part of my mornings – I save it til last, after I’ve checked up on email and work affairs and had some coffee – it’s my reward for getting up. Kupa and Mama have been in my thoughts – I hope they both recover quickly and fully, and are soon well enough to exasperate you again 🙂

    • dear ‘trophos’ ~ for quite some time now it has been oft the only on-line I check until all else in the real world takes its turn . . . have to click in ‘home’, does one not . . .?

  4. I do hope the Duke recovers; it’s quite interesting that he fights you for the injection, I firmly believe that animals have a sixth sense and they know that something is going to help them.
