We had about three inches of snow yesterday, maybe more it is hard to judge. Then we had ice rain down on it, then it snowed again, then ice rained down on that. Then it got warm enough for the tops of the snow to melt a little, then it froze again.
So by late yesterday afternoon the snow was crunchy underfoot.
And this morning it will be even crunchier.
I just cannot imagine anything growing here anymore. This long, long cold winter feels like a lifetime. Like we are in Narnia or something.
Good morning. The barn is quiet now without the plonkers who calmly rode off to the abbatoir. The money they raised will go to paying for a good amount of feed for the farm. I am pleased with them, they reached a good weight and were sturdy healthy animals. Just the sheep and the cows and Sheila now. And of course the birds.
Pania found herself on top of the barn yesterday, she sat up there for quite some time in a rather bemused fashion, occasionally honking for a ladder.
Tired of waiting she flew to the roof of the house then down into the garden .
Like the chickens the peahens hate the snow, so she had to be encouraged to fly back to the barn and inside again.
I hope you all have a lovely day.

I can’t tell you how good it feels to see Sheila at home. You’ve succeeded in winning our hearts over with your animal stories. You didn’t get a ladder for Pania? 😉
The farmy seems to have fallen under some sort of enchantment! It is like Narnia. Warm wishes and cozy dreams sent until the spell is broken
enchantment, that is the word I was looking for.. thank you mouse.. c
are there other peafowl in honking distance that she is trying to contact?
could she be weather forcasting with her shadow?
Pania, my dear, you are not a rooster nor a weather vane. Silly girl, I wonder if she was calling out to the duke?
sad..
Miss C, I will trade the few inches of snow you had fall for the foot we have leftover from previous snows, despite yesterday being nearly 40! It looks like we will get a lot more here this year too, but it will all melt very fast as we’ve reached the point that we get warm waves every 10 days or so, shooting up to mid to high 30’s.
What a white, white world. If you are in Narnia, then expect magic!
It looks so magical. Love that red coloured branchy plant near Pania – what is it?
Good morning, still rather fantastic photos All that snow that just keeps on coming. I understand that must be very long and cold for you but rather magical from Hawkes Bay. One day I will get over there to see it 🙂
What is your new project for 2014
