Ice, Ice everywhere and not a block for my drink

Thank you for all yesterdays excellent comments re: printing Sheila’s calender. I have some wonderful avenues to explore now, in my search for ways for Sheila to make some pin money to buy extra feed and maybe outfit a new summer area for her in the Rat House.  Mama and the girls are living in there now until the grass shows. It is gloriously sunny all morning and very sheltered.

Daisy is due in just over two weeks.  And so cold yesterday that her tears were freezing on her cheeks. 10-days-old-007

Queenie would like to remind us that she is also due to have her calf at the beginning of April.

Queenie has always been such a round cow that honestly it is hard to tell if she really is pregnant or not.  April might be a better month for calving though. 10-days-old-002

Marcel was 10 days old yesterday. 10days-012

And celebrated by sleeping most of the day with his rather formidable Boo Nanny.10-days-004

Do you remember that a week or so ago we had a few days above freezing, which melted some of the snow. Then of course it froze again. Now we are surrounded in fields of ice. Hard bitter unrelenting ice. The walks are even more dangerous than ever.

10-days-old-025 Below is the Creek that is really a Ditch. In fact Our John’s Great-Grandfather dug this ditch to drain the land, it was swampland until then.  John has inherited a little of the land across this ditch but we need to find a way across so we can take it out of the rented/ cropping cycle and farm over there. At the moment we have to drive all the way around on the road, then cut across someone else’s bridge and through their yard. Our house is just out of sight; screen left. Anyone got a bridge for sale?  A big bridge?

This is where I am going to sow the wild flowers this spring.  Along the banks of this Creek that is really a Ditch.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Your friend on the ever changing farmy,

celi

  1. Will Marcel’s adorable smiling face turn dark like his mothers’, grandmothers’ and aunts’, or will he stay white? (or can you know this?) My mom wants me to download his screen saver picture for her next time I visit! I think the idea of a line of Sheila T’s is brilliant and perhaps even more sellable than a calendar, but the two as a line would be awesome. You need to open a “The Farmy Store” on your blog and get into e-commerce. Selling those online would definitely buy some feed for the farmy and you could sell other things as time goes on, perhaps…including woolen hats, scarves and mitts….just a thought! 🙂

    • Poor. Daisy, having frozen tears but why is she sad. I could come and give her a cuddle but I think your frozen Iceland’s would give me problems. I do hope that you will take extra care and not slip over as you did before.

  3. Oh C. Put me first on the list for a T. Calendar and book!!
Marcel and boo together are so sweet! I think they make lambie diapers! 🙂
I hope your ice melts sooner than later! What a horrid winter you’ve had! I can’t. Wait for daisy’s calf or to see wild flowers blooming in the creek that is really a ditch. 🙂

  4. if you boil marcel’s milk and let it cool to serving temp.it will firm things up.may try boiling 1/2 of serving. then wait day or so after feeding that.if that not work boil, entire serving
once things are correct texture, back to regular menu.thats something we used to do for bottle lambs for years

    • He is on a proper lamb milk now so i am hoping things will settle down.. mostly I think he is one of those lambs that you hope they eat solids early! But he is big and growing fast.. c

  5. Have you ever thought of doing children’s books. I can just see “The Adventures of Sheila the Pig” with her friends TonTon and Ms. C. I would love a t-shirt!

Does your house ever make loud bangs with the cold? This year has been the worst here, it sounds like a rifle firing. One day after a blizzard, the temps were dropping into that -15 area and I thought the roof was coming down. I ran out to make sure there wasn’t a lot of snow on the roof but no, just the temp. dropping fast. Spring will surely be welcome this year. Have a super day.

    • Linda’s idea of a children’s book is a wonderful one Celi! There are so many lovable characters on your farmy, and the moral message of love and companionship would come out loud, clear and adorable! Do think about it!!! xo

      • I know, I know, could you please add another 24 hours to each day for me? Maybe a picture book though. With a teensy bit of txt. But for that i need to have the images in big files, filed away and they need to be crystal clear and perfect for printing to the size of the pages.. What I mean is that i need to shoot FOR the book and the cards and the calenders.. So I have to make some changes to my present shoot, run and fix it later mentality. But having said that.. there is no reason why i cannot! if these darned animals would just STAND STILL IN GOOD LIGHT WITH CLEAR BACKGROUNDS! whew.. (I need an assistant) c

  6. Sweetness overload!!! Farmy T shirts are such a great idea, too. We used an old trailer bed for a bridge once years ago and it worked slick. I just saw that another polar vortex is headed your way. When will it end? Saw the first flock of red wing blackbirds yesterday…..not that there is anything to eat yet. We are still frozen, but no snow. You may hate the snow now, but will have lots of water this summer. We will have none.
