All Is Well

TonTon, our darling Border Collie is fine. The growth under his chin, big enough to fit in my cupped hand, is a cyst. Possibly the result of a heamotoma or maybe something else, the Doc said. However he has antibiotics for the next ten days in the hopes of it going back down or popping (ick).  All will be well.

What do you think Daisy is looking at.

Marcel the Happy.  He was out walking about with me while I was working on the barn and Daisy rushed from door to door trying to intercept it. She mooed and called and whispered to him. Her eyes were absolutely fixed on the lamb her ears spinning on her head listening for him. 8as-042

She sent her long giraffe tongue out to taste him as he danced by.8as-036

Then she took to glaring at me as though I was keeping her baby from her. Then every time the lamb baaa-ed. Mama would Baa back from the middle pen.. 8as-049

..and Daisy would bellow. I’m here I’m here. Come out. Don’t listen to those naked  sheep. I am here!

I held the lamb up for Daisy to sniff properly so she would see that he was not a calf he was a little sheep but oh no, she licked him all over and nuzzled him, making little gentle grunts in her throat and tried to draw him out of my arms and into hers. She was quite overwhelmed and not a little bit confused.

Time you got a baby of your own Daisy. Soon darling. Soon.

And wee Marcel the Happy lamb  just continued on, trotting about with his BooNanny, sniffing at stuff and chewing on sticks and doing what dogs do on a lazy afternoon.

Deeply relieved that TonTon is going to alright.

Like you I was thrilled by all the comments yesterday. Wonderful to see where you hail from. What a great Fellowship you are.

Have a lovely day.

ps. I am putting a wee syndicate together and we are buying a kunekune gilt. She is gold and black and very small. At the end of this month if all goes well, we will drive across the state to pick her up. Then in the Autumn after I come back from New Zealand we will choose a little boar. And after a while we will breed Kunekune. It seems absolutely right. They are such dear wee NZ  pigs. Big Beautiful Sheila will have lots of company and I will sell the piglets as an income to help support the farm. They make marvellous pets and are selling like hotcakes all over the country. It is a step out of my comfort zone to make  an investment like this but I feel right about it on many levels.

    • Kunekune are (kind of) native NZ pigs. Seems only fair that they should be raised by a native NZer in the US? Sorry i should have supplied you with a link.. you will get pictures soon though. c

  1. So happy to hear that Ton Ton is OK. That’s a very unusual reaction from Daisy, perhaps his mom’s dying wish was to ask Daisy to look after him. He is super cute for sure.
I meant to ask yesterday, won’t the lamb be chilled without their warm coats on?

  2. That lambie has more mamas than any lamb in history! Too funny!
Hope the cyst doesn’t rupture – nothing smells as bad a as draining abcess…easier to treat him than my daughter’s horse, at least. She was forever nicking herself on things and swelling up. Had an attitude like Daisy’s, too…

  3. Brilliant news about Ton, I am sure a few days of the antibiotics and he will be right as rain. Talking of the weather, it is bloody snowing here again this morning!! About 2 inches so far, but they say it will turn to rain this afternoon. My gardening clients keep asking when I will be by to start on their gardens, I keep telling them it is too cold, but being non-gardeners they can’t understand why I am not planting pretty flowers for them LOL

  4. Whew! So glad Ton Ton is ok. Sounds like Daisy’s hormones are all lined up for her calf’s arrival. 🙂

  5. Glad all is well:) I thought yesterdays “where are you from” post was fun. We have the globe almost covered. The sheep look like they would feel very soft right now. Going to google Kune Kunes need to know what you are up to. Have a lovely day.

  6. phewwww….what good news about ton ton. daisy sure needs her own baby! i can’t wait to see the kunekunes. they make such good pets. when might you look for a new peacock?

    • The fair is on the first sunday in april, not too far away. I will buy from the people who sold me the peahens, they are good strong birds. But I am not sure if i will be able to find a mature peacock.. we will see.. c

      • I went to a friend’s birthday party recently, and the host house has peacocks and hens….I went to the kitchen to get a cuppa, and there were two pea hens hunkered down in a shaft of sunlight, 2 more perched on the deck rail just outside and the peacock was in the lounge inspecting the cakes! Too much pea business too close to home for me, no matter how lovely to look at………

  7. There must be a mighty whoosh of phews as your subject line comes into every inbox! Good for you, Tonton. Bless you, Daisy, and your maternal instinct. Mind you, it would have to be a very hard hearted animal who didn’t adore Marcel! I am feeling a bit phew on my own account. A kind nurse took out 14 staples from my shoulder this morning – it wasn’t as bad as I’d feared – and I bought a new pair of shoes to celebrate.

  8. High five paws from Nutty and Honey. All’s well – and what a nice job the shearer did. Joy

  9. Such great news about Ton Ton! He is such a wonderful farm dog! And raising kunekunes? That is super exciting news!!! Big fun coming our way on the farmy, that’s for sure!!! 🙂

    • It feels nice to be able to raise an animal that will be sold purely for the fun of it. And frankly make a lot more money each time (fingers crosseed) . So if all goes well i can cover the feed and building bills on the farm. It will take some work but I know a little aboout pigs now, sad to waste that knowledge. c
