All Is Well

TonTon, our darling Border Collie is fine. The growth under his chin, big enough to fit in my cupped hand, is a cyst. Possibly the result of a heamotoma or maybe something else, the Doc said. However he has antibiotics for the next ten days in the hopes of it going back down or popping (ick).  All will be well.

What do you think Daisy is looking at.

Marcel the Happy.  He was out walking about with me while I was working on the barn and Daisy rushed from door to door trying to intercept it. She mooed and called and whispered to him. Her eyes were absolutely fixed on the lamb her ears spinning on her head listening for him. 8as-042

She sent her long giraffe tongue out to taste him as he danced by.8as-036

Then she took to glaring at me as though I was keeping her baby from her. Then every time the lamb baaa-ed. Mama would Baa back from the middle pen.. 8as-049

..and Daisy would bellow. I’m here I’m here. Come out. Don’t listen to those naked  sheep. I am here!

I held the lamb up for Daisy to sniff properly so she would see that he was not a calf he was a little sheep but oh no, she licked him all over and nuzzled him, making little gentle grunts in her throat and tried to draw him out of my arms and into hers. She was quite overwhelmed and not a little bit confused.

Time you got a baby of your own Daisy. Soon darling. Soon.

And wee Marcel the Happy lamb  just continued on, trotting about with his BooNanny, sniffing at stuff and chewing on sticks and doing what dogs do on a lazy afternoon.

Deeply relieved that TonTon is going to alright.

Like you I was thrilled by all the comments yesterday. Wonderful to see where you hail from. What a great Fellowship you are.

Have a lovely day.

Your friend on the farmy

ps. I am putting a wee syndicate together and we are buying a kunekune gilt. She is gold and black and very small. At the end of this month if all goes well, we will drive across the state to pick her up. Then in the Autumn after I come back from New Zealand we will choose a little boar. And after a while we will breed Kunekune. It seems absolutely right. They are such dear wee NZ  pigs. Big Beautiful Sheila will have lots of company and I will sell the piglets as an income to help support the farm. They make marvellous pets and are selling like hotcakes all over the country. It is a step out of my comfort zone to make  an investment like this but I feel right about it on many levels.

  1. Pheeww from me too, about TonTon – I was really worried! Mama does look clean and ready for summer in her new “do” 🙂 Do you think Daisy might surprise us this weekend? Laura

    • I am not sure Laura, she is awfully calm.. and her udder is not as full as last time, so she may have a few days yet.. but i have to be prepared anyway.. c

  2. What a relief that all is well. I know how much one frets about a sick animal and it’s easy to think the worst. I hope TonTon is soon back to full health and to lend a hand with Daisy. Little Marcel continues to charm and is fast becoming a favourite – better watch out, Sheila 🙂

I had to google that pig breed as I’d not heard of them. What little cuties – I can see why they are popular. I made the mistake of looking at Google Images as well and my heart just melted. My favourite pigs are those woolly Mangalitsa that look like sheep dressed as ham. We saw them when we were in England and couldn’t believe our eyes. The one we saw was a pretty golden colour and it was just gorgeous. Like a cross between Sheila and Marcel…

    • I love the mangalista too, but they are Outrageously expensive.. But you never know.. and because we are all a bunch of softies it feels nice to breed an animal that is not destined for slaughter.

  3. Great news about Ton Ton. And no wonder that Marcel is smiling, everyone wants to be his mama!

  4. I am so relieved to hear the good news about Ton. Thankful in fact. Have a wonderful weekend C! I hope you will have a chance to rest up this weekend with the calf coming soon.

  5. Glad to hear that Ton’s only got a cyst & that he’s on antibiotics. My Lola had one that started out small but got a lot bigger fast because it had ruptured. The vet drained it (really yuck!) and put her on antibiotics but said that they usually come back unless they’re surgically removed. Sure enough, it’s back so we need to schedule her to just get it out once & for all & at the same time we noticed a large flat mass just behind it which is a benign tumor. Since it’s in the same area they’ll just get that out of there too. Her cyst is near the spine though so it’s causing discomfort because it’s pressing on a nerve.
Do you think that someday Marcel will grow into those long legs?

  6. Gosh, isn’t Mama looking svelte after her shearing. I’m used to seeing her with a tight Nana perm in her grey hair, but she’s looking years younger! Poor Daisy’s hormones must be raging to make her confuse a lamb with a calf. Very glad that Ton only has a cyst and nothing worse. Good night from northern Queensland on cyclone watch – again!

  7. That sound you hear is the Fellowship sighing in relief, followed quickly by ooohing and aaahing as that same Fellowship reads of Daisy’s motherly interest in Marcel.
I hope you’re getting some of this sunshine this morning. There’s a cardinal singing out back and it’s a great way to start a day. It’s about time!

  8. So glad to hear Ton is on the road back to his regular self! Love starting my morning by checking in on your crew. Love the new layout – and your photos are amazing! I’m from a small village north of Kingston, Ontario.

  9. This is such a happy post. Marcel looks like Tom Jones with his midriff hanging out and his white bell-bottom pants. Except he’s cuter and sweeter and decidedly G-rated! He has an innate ability to make people adopt him…he’ll be fine in life, won’t he. The kune kune idea is GREAT!! Feels just perfect…so so happy for you. When enlightenment (like that) dawns is such an excellent feeling, isn’t it? Everything clicking into place like in a watchmaker’s universe. Happy happy. (So relieved about Ton, but then I again, we “just knew” it would be okay somehow…)

  10. I said it was a cyst…so happy that it is.Our old dog gets lots of lumps and bumps and all benign so no problem but she does have cancer of the lymph system but nobody has told her…she still lives her life to the full, even though she is grey around the gills and the hearing is selective…one day she must go but not just yet.
it is wonderful to hear about Marcel and how everyone wants to be his Mommy..ain’t that so sweet..
