Not too many words today. Words seem to tax my brain and my back more than images and hay bales do when I am tired.
We are building up to Busy here and every step I take I have to take with care making sure my feet go into metaphorically firm ground. My mind must be wired for sound or one of the balls will fall. Soon it will all be second nature. But for the moment I must have my mind turned on.
The dogs and I kept out of the barn yesterday, except for quiet baby feeding and of course the milking very early. Queenie settled down significantly and yesterday allowed me to give her calf his selenium shot, and put his coat on. He will wear the coat for a few days. We are still down in the thirties at night and as the optimum temperature for a calf is 50, I don’t want a calf to waste good energy keeping warm. Of course it is not essential but I can so I will. He should not need it for long (fingers crossed). Today I will open Queenie’s door again. She does not like to be shut in and wherever she goes that calf will go with her. But her door is on the North so I am careful.

I don’t know how the poor chap keeps his eyes open with eyelashes that long.
The winds were heaving outside so the dogs and I chose to work indoors. Tima had to follow us all over the house. Though I think it was the other way round. I swear she had long invisible leashes attached to the dogs and wherever she went they were towed along behind.
See how she has two black feet and two white feet. Under her chin are tassles; these are called piri piri. Remember to roll your r’s.

But all good things must come to an end. If Tima wants to go to the toilet she goes back to the toilet corner in her room, she is very good like that and if she gets tired she just takes herself back to bed. This is an entirely different kind of pig. Quiet. And very, very smart.
Now I am off out to work.
You all have a lovely day

Now, I really can have a lovely (and cute) day. Thank you.
Good morning! Your little Tima is a doll; but I am oh-so partial to Hereford calves. 🙂 A most wonderful, busy, time on your farm. I hope the wind isn’t howling today at your place like it is here this morning.
Howling! and will do so all day. It has a lot of Westerly in it too, my least favourite wind.
Westerly is besterly hereabouts, warmed by the Gulf Stream below. East is worst, from Siberia.
It is warmer but it blows straight into the west doors of the barn, and straight into the kitchen doors. I should say it is the Least Convenient of winds. There is very little shelter for the animals from that side.. But it is warmer than the northerly that is for sure.. c
It is here also…and cold. A nasty April Foo’s Joke
Queenie’s calf has the most precious face! I love him!
I hope you get some rest soon Celi. I am running on empty today too, but will struggle through somehow. Have a great day!

Not too many words from here, so no over-taxed brains…just, “Thank You for sharing them with us!” 🙂
That is one very good looking little calf from Queenie. He has a great face and seems very interested in all that is going on. Cecelia , you must get exhausted – and you never ever get a day off. But you do have a beautiful farm family.
Moments after he was born his head was up looking about, he is a very aware calf, which is good.. No days off until october.. but thats ok.. c
What a lovely start to the day 🙂
Tima is quite simply the most beautiful kune kune I’ve ever seen
Cuteness Factory par excellence, keep calibrating 🙂 Laura
I had a 7:00 haircut appointment this morning, but my barber called to say he was running late so I dashed to the computer to quickly read an update! How wonderful that I could get a dose of ” the cuteness factory” before heading out! These babies, and the mamma’s make for a sweet start to my day! What is the intended purpose of the piri piri? Very unusual!
I have no idea why the piripiri are there. Sometimes an animal will be born with only one and sometimes none at all. Usually they have them though.. I need a haircut too.. I am looking more and more llike that clown in the Simpsons.. maybe next week c
C, goats have them as well; they are called wattles or “bells”. Everyone on the farm looking good today. E
Awww I think I’m falling in love with Tima!
The calf and Tima are beyond cute – you’ll have to open the petting zoo when everyone has relaxed 😉
Mad if only you could get one of these piggies, tell them it is a dog! I am writing to you now with Tima asleep in the sun at my feet! Boo Nanny sleeping next to him. I am afraid to move they are so sweet!.. c
Ha ha – don’t tell Tima but Sheila’s still my favourite and Poppy’s very cute too!
Tell them it’s a dog with a glandular problem.
could tima be any cuter? and the new calf is awesome!
Your posts always leave me with a smile on my face.
Clever Tima – toilet-trained already
Nanny Boo is in his element with all the babies to look after.
Don’t work toooooo hard.
Love,
ViV xox
I see Boo Nanny is as busy as ever. What is it with that dog? Is this typical of this breed?
Morning Audrey, i think he is a mixture of breeds so i am not sure which one is promoting this trait. But he and Ton definitely have different reactions to small animals. Boo lets the little pig sniff and nibble him all over, staying very still .. they are both under my chair at the moment .. sleeping in the sun, unbelieveable.. c
We had a part blue heeler for many years and he had these tendencies for ‘care giving’ as well. I wonder if it is part of what makes them herd so well? Taking care of the flock, as it were?? All the babies are so cute. Thank you for your efforts to share with us.
