The Cuteness Factory

Not too many words today. Words seem to tax my brain and my back more than images and hay bales do when I am tired. 123kune-and-hereford-020We are building up to Busy here and every step I take I have to take with care making sure my feet go into metaphorically firm ground. My mind must be wired for sound or one of the balls will fall. Soon it will all be second nature. But for the moment I must have my mind turned on.

The dogs and I kept out of the barn yesterday, except for quiet baby feeding and of course the milking very early. Queenie settled down significantly and yesterday allowed me to give her calf his selenium shot, and put his coat on. He will wear the coat for a few days. We are still down in the thirties at night and as the optimum temperature for a calf is 50, I don’t want a calf to waste good energy keeping warm.  Of course it is not essential but I can so I will. He should  not need it for long (fingers crossed). Today I will open Queenie’s door again. She does not like to be shut in and wherever she goes that calf will go with her.  But her door is on the North so  I am careful.123kune-and-hereford-046 123kune-and-hereford-051

I don’t know how the poor chap keeps his eyes open with eyelashes that long.

The winds were heaving outside so the dogs and I chose to work indoors. Tima had to follow us all over the house.  Though I think it was the other way round. I swear she had long invisible leashes attached to the dogs and wherever she went they were towed along behind.

See how she has two black feet and two white feet. Under her chin are tassles; these are called piri piri. Remember to roll your r’s. 123kune-and-hereford-003 123kune-and-hereford-011

But all good things must come to an end. If Tima wants to go to the toilet she goes back to the toilet corner in her room, she is very good like that and if she gets tired she just takes herself back to bed. This is an entirely different kind of pig. Quiet.  And very, very smart.

Now I am off out to work.

You all have a lovely day

  1. No need for many words today, Celi. Your photos speak volumes and you’ve got plenty else to do. Good to see that Queenie seems to be calming down a bit. It will make your life easier if you don’t have to worry about her chasing you away. I’ve a picture in my head of Tima leading the dogs around your home. She’ll have them doing tricks in a couple of months. 🙂

    • No more to be born here thank goodness, just the plonkers for pork and the chickens for chicken, oh and the bees and the ducks and the layers.. but no more to be born here. yikes… c

  2. There is just too much cuteness factor in this blog. The calf and Tima – aaww and oohh. You’re making mommy get ‘that look’ in her eyes again looking at Tima. If I’m not careful, I will have a sibling here – snorts. XOXO – Bacon

  3. It was great to see how small Queenie’s calf is next to her for scale. He’s a beautiful boy! Tima is adorable and you can just look at her face and see that she’s smart. But to be toilet trained on her own, now that is something. Nice to see the Boo Nanny on duty again. He must be beside himself with all these charges to oversee at once. 🙂

  4. That shot of Queenie in the sunlight in the doorway (which sounds like something out of an Agatha Christie novel when I put it like that) is a calendar shot for sure.

  5. Summer and I would love to come visit you and your menagerie! She could sure use the company these days!
Storm is on it’s way to the east…you must be feeling some of it by now…blah…so glad it is over. Thunder, lightning, snow and wind around 50 mph…it was something.
    Now we dig out.
Such wonderful photos today! Loved them so much! Boo you can always come visit us! You are so amazing!!!!
Stay warm! Sunshine is a huge blessing! Soak it up!!! I know I am! Our home faces the east and then we have the sun from the west in the afternoon! Mmmmm…..feels so good! Even if it is very cold outdoors still.
You make me want to get a little pig too! Soooo adorable! Beautiful lashes on the baby bull! 🙂
    Warm days are a’comin! Soon…very soon…:)
    Take care! Mere and Summer

  6. with all that you do and especially over the last week or so I am surprised that you are not walking around like a zombie.
love the baby animals and look how weeny Tima is in comparison to Boo

  7. Cuteness overload. Will have a smile on my face all day…..even though we had 3 inches of snow last night. Tima a nd Boo are amazing! I wonder if Tima could learn to walk with a halter and leash. Then you could take her to town and cause a stir. Queenie must be so proud… Get some rest, Celi. Lots of work ahead.

  8. Normally I try to avoid overuse of the word “cute’, but after looking at today’s photos of babes galore, cute seems most appropriate. Queenies’ boy is absolutely beautiful with those long lashes & curly coat. Perhaps he will make friends with the Bobby once they are introduced outside. Tima is an adorable
girl. I’m happy she takes after her Auntie in the looks department as the photo of her mum was a bit fierce looking with her coat of red. It must be a relief to you that she is so well behaved. I follow Bev Franklin’s blog & she has 2 kune kunes girls. Even outdoors in their pen, the girls have one designated potty area. This breed is so clean & smart. They usually greet you by flopping on their side & wanting you to give tummy rubs. Shelia will seem like a giant compared to Poppy & Tima. Boo must be happy to have a steady stream of babies to supervise. He is in his element as a nanny, that’s for sure.
I hope you get a few minutes to rest today. You have had an exhausting few weeks being on labor watch, milking, tending to mothers & newborns, etc.. The farmy is growing by leaps & bounds with sweetness.

  9. Queenie looks transformed by motherhood. I swear, her face is radiating pure maternal love. And you can see why. That baby is so sweet. So dear. So tiny compared to his mamma. Tima is a good spirit…they all are. Your cup runneth over. Happy happy. Tired tired. Sleep.

  10. Love it – as always. I’m not a pig-person, but the kune kune is rather adorable. Is Queenie’s baby also a Bobby? I think I hear some hesitation in calling him such. He looks just like his momma, but so thin compared to her!

I think I needed a pic of Marcel to really overload me with cute.

Oh! My friend had her son – 8lbs 4oz and 20 in long – as well he should be after ‘cooking’ 42 weeks! Everyone happy n healthy and at home again, as they should be 🙂

    • Congrats to your friend, I am so glad Daisy did not hold on that long!! Yes Queenie’s calf is a bull calf as well, so we will be raising them both for a few years for grass fed beef.. this is the way of the farm.. c
