Not too many words today. Words seem to tax my brain and my back more than images and hay bales do when I am tired.
We are building up to Busy here and every step I take I have to take with care making sure my feet go into metaphorically firm ground. My mind must be wired for sound or one of the balls will fall. Soon it will all be second nature. But for the moment I must have my mind turned on.
The dogs and I kept out of the barn yesterday, except for quiet baby feeding and of course the milking very early. Queenie settled down significantly and yesterday allowed me to give her calf his selenium shot, and put his coat on. He will wear the coat for a few days. We are still down in the thirties at night and as the optimum temperature for a calf is 50, I don’t want a calf to waste good energy keeping warm. Of course it is not essential but I can so I will. He should not need it for long (fingers crossed). Today I will open Queenie’s door again. She does not like to be shut in and wherever she goes that calf will go with her. But her door is on the North so I am careful.

I don’t know how the poor chap keeps his eyes open with eyelashes that long.
The winds were heaving outside so the dogs and I chose to work indoors. Tima had to follow us all over the house. Though I think it was the other way round. I swear she had long invisible leashes attached to the dogs and wherever she went they were towed along behind.
See how she has two black feet and two white feet. Under her chin are tassles; these are called piri piri. Remember to roll your r’s.

But all good things must come to an end. If Tima wants to go to the toilet she goes back to the toilet corner in her room, she is very good like that and if she gets tired she just takes herself back to bed. This is an entirely different kind of pig. Quiet. And very, very smart.
Now I am off out to work.
You all have a lovely day

Nothing cuter than a new calf – unless it’s small pigs and dogs! Enchanted kingdom – you need a sign with that. (Oh have you seen this website about farms/farmers/food? Farmstarliving.com
People can go there to find real farm experiences for one thing – petting zoos – sleep on the farm….
Don’t know if there is anything for you there – but it’s interesting. (it’s also part of tomorrow’s post.)
Get some sleep if you can. Boy, do I hope the weather moderates a bit for you guys
yes i really could do with some warm sun, we all could. i shall pop over tomorrow and see about that link.. farm stays are a thought, we need to find some ways of making a little money to fund our enchanted kingdom.. c
Cuteness indeed! I just want to squeeze that little piggie…they are so cute together.
The string of amazing critters never ends!
Celi ~ Yes, perhaps you cannot take a farmy animal day off till your autum trip Down Under, but surely you can manage to take a vacation from us and get on your feet and a little less worn out with all those new mouths to look after and feed! Say for a fortnight post one cute photo a day and a ‘wellness’ score for yourself – no writing, no commenting . . . . we will be there!! But one day you just have to publish ‘Nanny Boo and his charges’: it would go viral 😀 !!
Oh but I don’t Want a day off. I love it out here, in fact if I had a choice I would get someone else to do my shopping so I did not have to have a day off! Boo never ceases to amaze me, what is he going to do with a duck!?.. c
Hmm, Miss C – methinks I would just love to look after all the babies and forget awhile about having to think about words and pictures and other people 😀 !!!!!!! To each their proverbial own 🙂 !! Boo and duck ~ I think it is more the case of what will the duck do to Boo: can’t see them playing ‘nosies’ together!!!!!
duck?? what did I miss?
Ducklings coming next month with the new layers! and I have no idea why, Nanette. I must have been temporarily insane when I ordered them! c
You have cornered the market on cuteness.
Queenie’s calf does have long lashes. Handsome fellow, he is. No wonder she wants to keep him all to herself. I love how Boo is with the little ones. He’s the ideal foster parent.
this is so nice post. i like that.
Cute animals indeed! All this new life is keeping you on your toes – well having to have your feet flat on the ground too. A dance between alertness and groundedness; all park of awakening to spring. Wishing you well with it all.
They say pigs are smarter than apes. You’ll have to start pre-school with all your other duties.
Some breeds of pigs are definitely smarter than others. c
I know having all these babies around is a lot of work, but they’re so stinkin’ cute!
pigs are so smart/clever – I’m sure she will continue to amaze you
