Long Arms

I often think my arms are longer than they really are, I reach over a fence or through a gate and just cannot reach the object I am trying to reach. You would think after living this long with these arms I would know by now how long they are.two-013

We had almost two and a half inches of rain yesterday, all in the first half of the morning. Everyone is clean but the ground is muck. The mud brings the flies. It is ludicrous. And our Allison the next Farm Stay friend is coming on Monday to a wet, chilly Farmy. Yes, it is going to be very cool this coming week. Good for working though.

Mama is starting to look a bit tired in her eyes so I have started her on some aspirin. I am trying to book in the vet but it is hard to get them to come out to the farm.  Her time is almost here. What has amazed me is her flock, she has never been left alone.  I move her twice a day so she can get some new grass (she is still eating and drinking and chewing her cud) and wherever she ends up, they just follow and settle themselves back down beside her. two-010

Speaking of geriatrics.

This is an example of Poppy on my feet. You see how she throws herself right onto my feet so I cannot move and am forced to scratch her warm belly. She just lies there with her eyes closed and waits. two-042

With all this rain and warmth the fields are heaving with good tucker. Marcel and the others are fat sheep this year and already the hay field is growing back.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Your friend on the farmy

PS. Adopt a Unit: What a wonderful response from The Fellowship. Sending a parcel of goodness to our army boys sure beats putting a Support Our Troops bumper sticker on the car.  I shall consult further with my US army friends then I will come up with a plan. Maybe we can all take a month each and send a package that month or something like that. If you are too far away or are unable to do this maybe you can help us with ideas. I will get back to you with some kind of plan very soon. And how many young men and women in the unit.  It is quite small. We will be little and smiley and stay under the radar. We will use the long arms of the Post Office.

  1. Good morning. A couple of years ago I sent a good size box filled with treats to a Afgan, never get a note back if they get there or not. I can seed some one some money to do this but can not stand long to go to the very busy post office

    • No need for that Sandy, I do not want you standing about in that PO. I know you would like to help so if i have any thoughts for help from you that does not need knees I will ask you first? OK? We will work it out. c

      • Good.
What I was told to send was small packages of cookies. the tiny packets of catchup , muster and such, Slim Jims(?) Gum and hard candies. There was more on the list but this old brain has forgotten.

  2. Everyone with cold feet needs a Poppy foot warmer…. I love the idea of Mama’s support group migrating with her. The Sisterhood of the Travelling Ewe. PS: I’m getting emails offering donations of fabric and unfinished quilts to recycle already! Watch out for the first AHQ quilt to go to Afghanistan…

  3. you do make me laugh..how long are your arms?? They have always been the length they are now otherwise you would be a very funny shape….
I don’t like to hear that Mama is approaching the end. It only shows how precious life is to us all. She has had a good life and a hapy one and can now spend her final time surrounded by those who love and care for her. Even some humans do not have that.
Give her a kiss for me, maybe that will put new life into her old body….but I send you all my love and hopefully the sun will shine soon

  4. ballderdash and poppycock I just done this post and it disappeared and I can never remember word for rd what it was I said which was better than what I am saying now….
sorry to hear that Mama is no better.Give her a kiss from me, maybe that will bring some joy toher old body
    love to you all

  5. What a funny pig! Love it. We usually make donations to the troops through our Cub Scout troop…can you contact a local scouting group and ask them how they do it? They are very good at that. Also, I believe that when shipping to a military post you get special domestic rates, so you can inquire at the post office,…have a beautiful day (envying the rain. In Puerto Rico at the moment and the drought is NOT GOOD).

  6. Celi,
Give Mama a big hug for me ~ I know it isn’t easy to lose our dear farm animals ~ we were always quite attached to ours too. But she will take with her to Sheep Heaven some very dear memories and love from her farm Mommy Celi. And all her “Kids” surrounding her ~
how loving ~ our animals are so smart. Cute picture of little Marcel ~ he is growing up! We had 4″ here at Pontiac!!! Great for the billions of weeds I need to keep pulling in my garden!

  7. P.S. ~ I definitely want to help the Troops ~ they are always in my thoughts and prayers ~ they are never appreciated enough.

  8. It’s comforting that Mama is permanently surrounded by her friends.
I’ll start a quilt for a troop as soon as my current project is nailed (tonight, hopefully), though I reckon a few loo rolls and some chocolate would be more welcome!
    You are a wonderful motivator.
    Love,
    ViV

  9. You can tell so much from an animals eyes, a spark that says I’m still ok or as you say a tiredness that says I’m done with this now. But what a fine old time she has had with you and you with her. That big dog is magnificent, how old is he now? I have a big dog who is getting on. I remember you saying that your big dog did well on raw milk, I dont have raw milk but I do give mine the store bought kind and he is quite giddy for it, just a little bit on these cooler mornings is just the ticket.

  10. You need long arms with all your work. Mama is surrounded by loved ones and you are keeping her comfortable, give her a hug.
Count me in with helping the troops.

  11. What a pig! And I’ll swear that Big Dog’s eyes move further down his cheeks every time we see him!
    Christine

  12. It never ceases to amaze me how unique each creature’s personality is. That Poppy is SOME PIG! My heart goes out to you about to lose Mama, especially because she is so special to you. You rescued her from a life of not only physical suffering, but also psychological suffering, and she knew it.

    • I will ask The Postmistress about the discount and yes, i am sure they would love baked goods, we will space out the sendings so everything is appreciated and so we do not annoy the powers-that-be.The troops waiting in the bases are all far from home, far from the media eye of the people and far from mama’s home cooking.. that is if Mama is a cook!!.. c
