Yesterday we finished straining the yoghurt,
Made farmers cheese for tomorrows pizza.
Pickled gherkins,
Started a dough for pizza bianca, shifted chickens, loaded the plonkers for their final journey (with their beer dinner and beer breakfast this morning, drove the tractor around the block to the other barn, weeded gardens, hunted for eggs (Pania the peahen is sitting on some of them – if we are not careful we will have a peahen raising barn chickens- we will have to call them all Cuckoo), moved cows from one field to another, put on veils and checked the hive for honey (none in the roundy things at all) and tried not to be too too optimistic about Daisy though her stitches are holding in there and she is milking well out of the damaged quarter.
Today we will begin to repair all the broken fences and walls around the rat house paddock. These plonkers were particularly destructive. And after making the nut crackers and oatmeal cookies that I am craving, we will bottle the honey mead and the ladybird wine. Maybe we will taste a little too. Then go out and do battle with the head high thistles in the Daisy Field!
I hope you all have a wonderful day.
Your friend on the farmy

Wow! I take of my hat off to you 🙂
That must be quite a satisfaction…
Busy, busy. Sounds like good productive work with smiles all round. 🙂 Good morning to you, c, and to your guest. xx
I hope there are real ladybirds in that wine 😉
Love hearing about the way you use what the Farmy produces. But I loathe mead, it tastes like spoiled honey to me!
when we lost all the bees that time, I made it with all the honey they left behind and I have NO idea who it will taste as I have never drunk it!! If i hate it I think maybe I can cook with it?.. c
It must be good for something. But be careful, it has a lethal reputation for causing hangovers from hell.
I just tasted it, It is WONDERFUL! I have it in little bottles thank goodness.. c
Well, I just thought I got a lot accomplished yesterday! Your list makes me look like a slacker! 😉
Busy, busy, busy and products from the garden! Oh, and mulberry wine, wouldn’t that be yummy?
Have a happy, happy day, Allison and C!
How on earth did you find the time to write to us . . . . but thank you both for keeping us in the loop . . . . even if our contribution is but a big smile and a loud clap 🙂 !
Sounds like a great day!
Accepting help is an amazing virtue. Giving help is even better. I hope you both have the loveliest of days.
You should get a donkey…they love to eat thistles 😉
Have a good day, C!
I KNEW there was a reason why I wanted a donkey! Thank you!!.. c
You need a donkey, Celi, both to eat thistles and for the wonderful hee-haw that they shout out whenever they get the urge! Our neighbors have a donkey and I always smile, day or even in the middle of the night when he hee-haws. Can’t help but to smile or laugh! 🙂
Definitely need a donkey. But not the mini-Sicilian ones. While they are small, adorable and sweet -> they will eat themselves to oblivion!!! I am very fond of the burro as we had them when I was young. Then we moved to MULES – which a MULE – you always know where you stand. They don’t like you. (to be honest we had 3 wonderful mules who were very mild temper. better than any horse I have knows) and then – we got COWS. Pet Cows……
My goodness, that’s quite a to do list! Enjoy your day. 🙂 April
Have fun , I love farmers cheese. My mom just told me how she made “Dicke Milch” . It’s similar to yoghurt . She put some yoghurt culture into raw milk and left it out until it would get thick. My favorite cheese here in Germany is Kochkäse, if you’re interested I can try to get you the recipe. Are you making wurst from the plunkers meat?
Tell your mum that is exactly what i do too! and I would like the recipe for the Kochkase. and yes, we will be making wurst for sure.. hope things are well for you on the farm in germany today. wonderful.. c
I’ll try to get one that will work with you.
What a lot you did. Last first: WHAT is ladybird wine? I can’t believe you’d ferment one of the gardener’s best friends! I love the idea of cuckoo-peahens. Your day is so varied that it must be very spicy…
Love,
ViVx
Yep. Summer is in full swing on the farmy. How nice that Allison has come to lend a hand. Hope Daisy continues to mend well. Have a great day, Celi.
It might be interesting to let Pania the peahen raise one or two of the chicks that hatch – who knows how chicken raised by a peacock will act?
