Cats and kittens are always welcome on the farmy. We do not have a rodent problem and this is why.
Every year we welcome a few newcomers. These two little boys have been beautifully brought up and are very tame and accepting of dogs. They are in an enormous cage for a few days until they get used to the barn animals and then they will go up into the loft with the peacocks, once they work out how to get down they are usually acclimatised. Scrapper has been gone walkabout for a few weeks now but I am sure Egoli and LuLu and Marmalade will have something to say about these little surprises.
No names yet though. Any ideas?
Daisy is still brightening up but milking almost nothing out of her swollen quarter now. I will speak to the vet ‘again’ today.
Also today, if the weather holds, we will start fencing the new pastures across the way at the Big Barn. Plus I will be picking up a new student helper from the train station she is from Korea and wants to come and stay a few weeks. She wants to learn about American food. Growing and cooking. So that should be fun.
You know, I got up this morning at the usual time and it was dark! How did that happen. Plus it is pouring with rain which is nice.

Were you ever a fan of GIlligan’s Island? I like Skipper and Gilligan for them, they seem like they are bound to get in some flavor of trouble!

How about Carl and Otto, two good German names. We could use some of that rain here in California and yes the days are getting shorter. Time goes by too fast.

I’m back home here in Santa Cruz for a while but have to go back again to Germany before the year is over. My heart is here in California , my roots are in Germany. Isn’t home where the heart is, I don’t know. You’re right, I do have two homes .
Wow. Celi, I take my hat off to you. If I woke up in the dark and pouring rain I wouldn’t have your fortitude. Instead I’m afraid I’d roll over hunker down under the covers and get some more shut-eye.

I have a small gray striped kitten also. I believe the mother is part Siamese for he has blue eyes!
Every year towards the middle of August I am aghast that suddenly the days are visibly shorter. Every single year!! I was just thinking that Boo needed new babies to love, although these will be barn cats and not in the house…..although, they seem so little and in need of some TLC for a little while until they can fend better for themselves, hint, hint. Maybe Tima would like to play with them. Are you sure these cuties are boys? mmmmmm?
Love the new kitties! Sam & Jack, if they are both boys. The striped one looks like Scrapper & our Olivia. God for Boo, He’s got some little ones to care for again.

It’s dark and raining in Sydney too. The rain is welcome as it’s been a dry year, and apparently will continue so. The kitties are lovely. Good luck with naming – I recently acquired an old copy of T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats which proposes all cats have three names; a regular name, a fancy name, and name only the cat itself knows 🙂
I cannot believe your summer [which summer?] is almost over . . . . I love long days and ours are slowly getting there. And EllaDee please send that rain further south: we are cloudy and coolish but not a drop for weeks and weeks and my garden takes hours of watering!!! So there are more kitties and cute they are . . . . you are so good with names, methinks the right ones will come naturally! That said, some of the Ratpack ones would be most suitable I think 🙂 ! And if one of the kitties is female, remember Shirley M and Angie D ‘belonged’ also!!!!!!!! Another helper – great: also another mouth for whom to cook! Hope she can make kimchee 😀 !!
Love kittens with their batwing ears. And I, too, think Gilligan is a fine name. You could use Gilligan and The Professor.
