Did I Forget something?

Above and below  is Minouchki being beautiful. Yesterday, the kittens worked in the garden alongside Tima, Grace,Marmalade, Berrit and the dogs. They were very helpful. chickens-064 They had a lovely day!chickens-042

Though I was troubled. All day as I indulged in a day of weeding and gardening, I could not help cycling through the animals on the farm, in my head, trying to work out what I had forgotton.chickens-049 It is because I am no longer milking and all the meat chickens are gone.  I had an extra four hours yesterday. And it felt very strange.  Even though Daisy bellowed healthily almost the whole day, Poppy escaped and came to visit me in the  shed, Tima was discovered eating cat food and when I shouted for her to stop she grabbed a mouthful of the kibbles and carrying them in her mouth ran at full-fat speed out onto the verandah, where she dumped the cat food out of her mouth and proceeded to eat them one by one.  Sneaky.  Yet I still fretted. I had too much time!chickens-038

Then I sat down to dinner and between mouthfuls John looked out the window and said; Is Sheila meant to be out? My enormous pig sauntered past, like a short elephant, blocking out the sun. No, I said.

Later Tima was once again seen being bad,  stealing tomatoes in John’s garden, and darting right into the bushes with the tomato in her mouth, her head high to keep it from draging on the ground,  trying to hide when someone walked past,  so she spent the last of the day in her own little field out of harms way. She is a very clever little pig.  I miss the cream and the butter and the ice cream and most of all the yoghurt and cheese. But it is good to have those extra hours to play in the gardens.

How familiar does this look?chickens-023

Boo and The Professor.

Four big red hens (that were too small to go with the first batch of broilers and have been living with the second batch),  did not fit in the meat chicken baskets yesterday morning, because I had so many roosters,  so I have kept them and moved them to the layers pen.  They are lovely quiet hens, and I am assured that they will lay speckly brown eggs, so I will see what happens next. Saved by the bell.chickens-006

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Your friend on the farmy,

miss c

  1. The new moggies sure were quick to figure out how to descend from the rafters! Minouchki and The Professor…sounds like a children’s book. 😉

  2. I burst out laughing at Tima’s antics and then again at the thought of Sheila lumbering by…I could just see it in my mind’s eye, so thank you for that. We are back to school and I needed a good laugh and it’s only day three! 🙂

Boo nanny, so sweet with The Professor and Minouchki is precious. I just love kittens.

    Enjoy your easier days.

  3. Celi, do you want a place to relax and be taken care of? I know the very one, even the animals are given 5* treatment. It is called the farmy! I am sure Tima would bring you breakfast in bed, and Boo would make sure she did it properly. 😆

  4. I think I enjoy reading comments as much as your posts… what a lovely flock of friends you have. I can’t help but love naughty Tima. The photos of Boo and the Professor are sweet. I completely understand something not feeling right when we have extra time. I think I need a few days to settle into “less” in my program!

  5. Veryfunny Sheila going past. And Boo licking the Professor. I’m so happy to hear that Daisy is bellowing happily in her field. Good morning, Cecilia.

  6. You are hilarious! I totally get a mental picture of Tima.
I’m so glad you have some extra time for yourself, hard work can be wonderful but relaxing or doing something out of the norm is just as important. Have a fun day!

  7. Grab you spinning wheel and sit on the veranda and spin up some nice yarn if you are looking for something to do. I always find that relaxing and soothing. Or…..gasp…just do nothing but watch the summer day go by. Awwwww Boo has a new baby. So cute. Enjoy this breathing time before the garden harvest…..things will pick up again soon.

  8. Sneakiness must be a breed trait of the kune kunes. Whenever I let Percy out to spend some time in the yard, he saunters over to take a dip in the dog’s wading pool, then onto the deck to check out their water dish and when he figures I’m not looking he races to the row of hostas by the woodshed. When I shout at him to stop he runs full tilt along the bed grabbing as many mouthfuls as he possibly can, then sprints down and around to veggie garden before he stops to eat them. I have some sad looking hostas. He does really enjoy his food though, unlike the dogs who just snarf and gulp. Fortunately it’s hard to kill hostas and the entertainment value he gives is priceless.

      • It would be as lively as last week when my brother and his wife brought their 5 youngest grandkids to see the animals. Three at three years and two at one and a half years. It was like a swarm! They never stopped!

  9. I adore Tima and her glorious antics… what a fun – filled gorgeous personality she has… if you were this side of the world I would kidnap her – do I mean pig nap her?
Love to you all from from us in your freezing homeland…

  10. In a week we lost Robin Williams only to remember ‘Dead Poets Society’ . . . . irreverently but warmly, shall we once upon a time remember Boo as a very special carer and teacher?

  11. You could not remember what to do with your new found idle time, but all the animals have very full adgendas. Lots of escaping, being naughty and some building new relationships. Tima is one very sneaky & spoiled piggy – she knows she has mama wrapped around her little hooves. Much too clever for her own good as she is looking quite plump these days. Boo must be so happy that the Professor still enjoys being taken care of, but will Boo be disappointed all over again when time turns Professor into a cat who no longer finds roughhousing with dogs quite their cup of tea? If only Boo understood that he really needs is a puppy. How funny to see the HMS Shelia cruising nonchalantly past your window. Does she now know how to unlock every gate on the farm? Next thing you know, you’ll see Shelia driving the cooking oil truck down the road & into town to run some errands. She is one special pig. It’s great that your two helpers are lightening your workload so you can relax a little.

    • Methinks this has bee one of the truest and most fun comments I have read on your post, Celi! May I so agree with all points without having made any of the same myself!! Thank you Ellen for quite making my day!!!! ni, ni . . . .
