Sometimes I stare at the Title Space and nothing enters my mind. Actually I often stare with nothing in my mind but we all know that by now.
‘Never say never’ sprang to mind last night when I began to load this page. There are always hiccups along the way. Not major ones. just little ” hicks hicks in cups”. I think it is good to know that things are not meant to go smoothly so we can then gird our loins for the incoming little hicks.
But as my Senior Son said to me the other day “First World Problems.” Thinking of it that way puts a lot of things into perspective. My first ‘First World problem’:
Tane was refused at the border because his cage did not meet the new specs. So now he is coming late tonight instead of last night. Tima is trying to be stoic. Jake is coming with me to the airport, so at this point, we are still full steam ahead. Same team – different day. And we will borrow The Matriarchs big jeep to accommodate the bigger crate.
Queenie has a new bull offer. He is from across the tracks and not a terribly trendy beau but she needs a bloke. He is a Holstein. A Holstein is like a Fresian. It is an accepted cross (Hereford/ Holstein) and he was a small baby, does not have a large frame and throws small calves. The vet has agreed in the absence of a good beef bull (and we are running out of time) it should be OK – so on Friday she will be loaded up into the black mariah and hauled off to live with her new fella for a while.
She calved a good sized calf without trouble last time so I hope this works. Everyone I spoke to has already shipped their bulls. Maybe I should get my own Hereford bull. This is what I am thinking. But I need a few more Hereford cows first. And more grass.
Isn’t Aunty Del looking lovely.
Poppy is banging on the gate. She always does this when she is coming into heat. She and Queenie cycle at the same time. Like sisters in a house. It is a noisy weekend. Though hopefully we get Queenie to her bloke before it is too late. And Poppy is left to make a racket all by herself.
There she is banging on that gate again. I have seen her wack the gate (and it is only ever this gate) with her food dish – maybe she will do that tomorrow. In December we will breed her.
I put an old hat rack in the shed. (The shed is like a purgatory for old stuff on it way to the recycling – I intend to remake this into a mirror for the wall – one day.) But in the interim the guineas have discovered it and spend a good deal of time checking their reflection”Does my arse look fat in this?” I can hear them saying. At which every other bird in the vicinity makes a run for it. NO-ONE want to answer that question. Guinea fowl hold grudges. (Once again I had the wrong lens on the camers for that shot – but out of focus or not it is too funny not to share!)
I hope you all have a good day.
Your friend – back on the farmy.

ps. Did I tell you that there is a rumour of Snow on Friday!? Horrors!

The animals are all looking so beautiful…especially the Guinea Fowl, i love that picture very artsy!
Just when I’m feeling a tad sorry for myself with the promise of our first freeze down here on Friday night, you come along with news of possible snow. Gads!! I’m not going to complain about a little ol’ freeze! So good to see photography of the farm critters and life moving on as is does. It seems every day is an adventure for those of us and our critters. Daisy was without the twins this morning – just she and Spirit. Within an hour one fawn was discovered, but the other still missing. The rut makes for chaos with the bucks chasing the does and the kids getting lost in the mix. The orphaned squirrels are off on their own new adventures, setting out each morning to the trees and woodlands… discovering their new world. Of course they come back here each evening to fill up on vittles and they still sleep in their little squirrel complex. Isn’t life with animals rewarding and educational?
Oh no! Does that mean Tane is being looked after by the folks at the airport along his intended route?
Omg. I sure hope you didn’t drive all the way to Chicago !
NO, she called me from california when he was refused, but he is on his way today.. c
Wrong kind of cage to cross the border? What the heck is that all about? I hope he arrives safely and in good health, Celi.
There must be an equation about size of animal and size of cage.. not to worry though he is on the plane today!
Yay! Can’t wait to see him! 😀
Fingers crossed for Tane doing the business when he finally arrives, he sure owes you plenty of fuel cupons! 😉
I continue to be amazed at the new perspectives you manage to come up with daily of the Farmy and its animals. That shows your creative talents. I especially like image 2 with the barn in the background. Whose red barn is that?
Pardon my saying so, but things on the farmy are really heating up since your return!!! Best to all of the beasties, with love and good-luck wishes all ’round. ❤

Wonderful post … hic hic in cups. Love it!
Everyone, including the peaheans, is looking lovely. As Mr Grace says on Are You Being Served?, “you’ve all done very well”!
It’s always good to factor in hiccups but with a couple of deep breaths both sorts generally resolve themselves. Good luck with Tane and the Sn… 😉
I can’t find my like button on your blog; which I click every day; I must get a fill of your life and words and the 4-leggeds; my computer and I are not knowledgeable together, but I will figute it out!
oh oh oh I just love Marcel. Any chance of a knitted sweater from his fleece that I could buy from you pleeeeeeeze?????? Tima being stoic – that made me laugh xx
Oh i cannot knit. I will get it made into yarn and then hope someone else want to knit from that.. I can knit scarves though!!.. c
oh lovely, I wouldn’t mind anything from Marcel’s fleece just to have a part of him would be soooo lovely. I think he’s lovely – as they all are. Hope Tima’s boyfriend arrived safely and she likes him. Blind dates can be a bit tricky!!
Ok, put me on the list for a Marcel scarf! 🙂
Just had some random wanderings, you say Marcel is getting uppity, would that not be a (bigger) problem should you acquire a bull? Poor Poppy in her stalking mood. Have you ever noticed any crankiness in the girls when they’re in season? Porcine PMS perhaps? I had a friend with an unspayed potbelly house pig and she would attempt to upend furniture when in season! How disappointing, Tima’s beau, I know I do hate waiting for things. Queenie looks perplexed, as if she’s wondering why she has no date for the prom.
yes a bull would be a problem.. still thinking about that.. if we were to have a big back paddock it would not be so bad.. weirdly the problem with marcel is he is so tame with us…c
I’d no idea that Guinea fowl were so vain. Peacocks, yes,but Guinea fowl? By now you’re well on your way to O’Hare and soon Tane will be on his way to the farmy. Does Tima understand that this is no time to be picky? It probably wouldn’t hurt his chances if Tane arrived bearing tomatoes. 😉
