Are you fretting yet?

As we wandered the streets of Chicago, Fede asked me endlessly – Are you worried about the animals yet? Will they be OK? Are you fretting?

I think he was more worried than I was as we wandered about the streets of Chicago.

Eating- ( and a teensy bit of drinking!).

whole foods

We went to Whole Foods too and Eataly. Galleries and Streets.

Lots of streets in a city. The city is a vast and glorious place. Do you love that header shot? I do. Here it is again just in case you missed it.

This was the door of an abandoned cinema? I am not sure.   I desperately want to get into that movie theater. But I was glad to get home.  Somehow everything seemed more enclosed than usual in the city. We were glad to get back to our wide open spaces. Though I love the city.  Can you sense a dichotomy?

cows

The pasture had grown in our 8 hour absence. This week we must get the electric fences set up!

The hay is drying!  (small, cautious yay!) I hope you have a lovely day.

Love your friend on the farm,

  1. Chicago is one of my favorite cities. I haven’t been there in years, so thank you for the peek down the streets. Best get the hay up. Since our Colorado weather rolls along to you, we had hot and dry yesterday but severe storms predicted for this afternoon.

  2. Gads! Two of my sisters in Nebraska said bad storms were rolling through this morning. I hope all of that weather skirts you for now! Hay harvest must prevail!! I love the city shots. We were in NYC the end of June last year and while I love my life here on the prairie, I do love a trip to a big city from time to time. I LOVE the term Eataly!! Such a clever way with words! 🙂

  3. I love the way you can look über-hip in the city and then like a true farm woman on the farm. It’s fun, looks like.

  4. It has been said the city feeds the mind while the country feeds the soul, and I suppose that’s why we are drawn so strongly to the countryside, given that our soul is our true reality — at least in most spiritual beliefs — and balance is the key to just about everything.
And while that pastry shop makes me want to descend upon it, I know you create goodies of equal and better taste treats back on the farm.
From the sounds of it, looks like you’re in for some good rain by tomorrow so hope your hay is dry enough to pick up later today!
And, yes, as Carla has suggested, I vote to keep Fede too! He sounds like a charm 🙂
Hope your day is a great one! ~ Mame

  5. Farmer Fede will have major withdrawal symptoms when the time comes to leave the farmy. The pastries look wonderful but I would look and drool before struggling to find something without cream. I only wish I could indulge.

  6. I get that sense of dichotomy going from city apartment to country house and back again, equally at home but more at peace in the country. I love the pics, great to see city things through a photographer’s eye that we would simply walk past. But waiting & welcoming cats, that’s what warms my heart 🙂

  7. Wonderful your Chicago day went so well! Have to laugh re Fede and Viv talking about ‘fretting’!! Remember a 6-week European sojourn leaving our two, 5 and 3 methinks at the time, in the brilliant care of in-laws who had moved in. I managed to wake up in Copenhagen half way thru’ shedding copious tears and fretting indeed! Well before ‘cell phone’ days! Took awhile to reach the Sydney pm to have a worried MIL ask ‘E’thing alright’? ‘Yes, but I am missing the girls like hell!’ ‘OK, I’ll call one of them!’ On came a rather grumpy older daughter: ‘Mom, is this REALLY important! Such-and-such is on TV and I really don’t want to miss any more’ Followed by a 2-3 minute précis of what was happening on the screen!! Out of the mouth of babes with husband dear having hysterics next to me!! Well, it led to a much less ‘fretting’ second half of the journey . . .

  8. Celi, dear. Did you know how dangerous it is to show those toothsome sweets to a diabetic? My blood sugar went sky high just LOOKING at the shots. For shame! (At least I live a long way from Chicago.) Heheh,Gayle in sunny Sacramento, Californiap.s. Next time you’re in Chicago, go to the Chicago Art Museum and take a gander at the Thorne Miniature Houses.
