Cow and Calf – Images

Lady Astor and her calf.

Bobby Blue is sitting against his mother – out of the wind. It was cold again yesterday.  (And cold again last night just for the record. Overnight of 46F and almost June.

Lady Astor does not care – she is huge and does not feel the cold like us mere mortals.

All these images are in the order that I shot them.

A quick munch. Bobby Blue is already eating the pasture. Tasting stuff.

Crossing the line, Bobby Blue smooches his mother from the other side.

Quick pose for the camera.

More smooching.

Then At Last.

I hope you have a lovely day.

  1. J > The reward for taking time to observe and learn is to realize greater value in our own lives. Farmed animals are living thinking feeling creatures just like us. Industrial agriculture – specifically industrial livestock management is very, very, wrong.

  2. Aww . . . . with those melting-soft eyes and long lashes Bobby Blue should have been a girl and able to stay on the farmy . . . . beautiful series, Celi!

  3. I am sort of amazed by how moving I find these pictures. How small he is, and yet how full of personality, Sweet and a wee bit naughty. And by how big she is by comparison, stretched out like that. Massive. And the tenderness between them…I just love it.

  4. Beautiful & tender portraits of your bovine family. And Ton-Ton their handsome canine companion. I’m so glad you are such a wonderful photographer.

  5. So beautifully camouflaged in the first picture. Great series of pictures, thanks. Laura

  6. My heart warmer for the day. Great photos of them. Glad it’s warming up for you today a bit. Will be 90 here in Portland and I will be in a puddle shortly. Thanks for those sweet photos. Have a wonderfilled day yourself.

  7. Oh Bobby Blue is a beautiful calf! In the first image – you can barely tell it is him – I just thought how odd that marking is on Lady A! Happy Monday to all of the Cast and community here!

  8. Well, it’s clear who his Mama is, but who is Papa? Is it the AI man and his straws, or is it Carlos the Tiny but Willing? Unless he stood on a bale, it seems unfeasible, but Bobby does have a look of Carlos…

  9. Very sweet photo series! That Little Bobby must be a healthy boy with that wonderful stretching he is doing. Thanks for the close up look at those two!

  10. You are taking us back in time, Celi,. Way back, where life is just that. Life. In its enormity, interdependence, sweet innocence.

  11. Quite an extraordinary series of photos. You have such prescience! I don’t think it would ever be possible to duplicate. Enchanting. Touching. Unique.

  12. thanks for the beautiful pictures Celi!!! So sweet ~ Mamma and baby and TonTon guarding!!! Nothing like life on the farm!! Stay warm!!

  13. Very enchanting, yes. And the first one, when I saw it I thought to myself, “Why is Miss C trying to pawn off Ton as a calf?”…. heh heh Of course, once I read the next part I realized you weren’t. Mother and child is a beautiful series of photos. Hope you have a lovely day too. ~ Mame 🙂

  14. Doesn’t this make all the hard work worth it? I hope so. And I love Ton just keeping watch. Touching photos today.

  15. I think this is one of my favorite days of photographs on your blog! Love them all.

  16. Touching pictures, almost like a movie if you don’t blink between images.

  17. What a gorgeous creature. I love cows, they have the most gentle nature. You can just see it in their sweet, innocent eyes. Lovely mother/child moments.
