I will try – but not today.
I can’t seem to find my rhythm this summer – not so far anyway.
I love the long necks on cows.
We have a savage amongst Poppy’s babies. Someone has bitten a chunk out of one of Poppy’s teats. And I think when this happened she must have leapt up and stood on another piglet ripping its little hoof off. The pig has two hooves per foot but still this is not a good thing. As I understand it the hoof will not grow back. I have given the baby antibiotics against infection and have Alex’s help with dipping the wound in iodine frequently.
The piglets are only just over two weeks old so once she hits three weeks I can bring her out to the house. This is only a few more days but I am afraid if I bring her out now and she does not take to a bottle or lap milk she will not thrive. Better to get her strong enough first. But if I leave her in there an infection might get away on us. Piglets sleep a lot so if she keeps off her feet it may well dry up. A Catch 22.
I will monitor her closely.
Poppy’s teat I am treating with iodine and it is drying up nicely. I think the piglets are still drinking from it which makes me cringe but will keep it clean.
So there is always something!

Ow ow ow! Poor Poppy, poor Piglet. Both must be hideously painful. Fingers crossed they both heal up without trouble.
Poor things – I hope both heal well and the little pig is OK. No doubt Nanny Boo will help 🙂
Poor Poppy and baby. Life is tough on the farm sometimes but you are such a wonderful caregiver to all your creatures. Love the pics today!
Looking at the wonderful flower colours I almost missed those beautifully growing vegetables! Hope both will help with getting some the mojo back . . . . actually Poppy’s babies keeping at the torn teat may make it heal faster: saliva is good! But both Mom and bub must hurt . . . and I wish it was going to stay dry . . . .
Since the piglet is so young it may heal up pretty fast hopefully…. Best luck with both of them : )
Good luck with the two injured animals … perhaps you need a week off from all that rain. It is vital but too many days in a row gets me down too. Laura
As my mother would say, never a dull day!
Tim always removed the four on each side of ‘milk teeth or black teeth’ when babies were first born. Guess they are pretty darn sharp. If it was a small litter he would not bother but did find the other piglets faces would get scratched up. But then again you probably know all this! Too bad about the wee hoof. Hope he does ok.

Well, it seems this spring it’s been one thing after another…. and we all know that if it’s not one thing it will be another. Not easy to catch onto a rhythm when that’s occurring. Is that the meat chicken shelter you’re showing us there? That’s an interesting ‘building’. One thing I don’t recall seeing is your greenhouse, or I think you call it your glass house.
