Our Scotman has arrived on a plane and now we have a full complement of workers.
Last night he and the girls all went for a walk after dinner – I think they are going to get along just fine.
Wai the rescue potbelly pig refused to let Alissa cover him while I was away at the airport, snapping like a turtle at her. These flat one dimensional images do not do justice to the sheer bloodymindedness of this pig. The wounds you are seeing are indented into his body. Some between a 1/4 and a 1/2 inch deep. I can feel his joints under my fingers. When the skin is healed he will have extraordinary scars. All my workers visibly blanch and swallow when they see him. His survival is astounding. All that healing and still has time to be an ordinary fussy bad tempered wee pig. Love it!!
I think he has made friends with Tima too which is amazing. Tima is not known for her good nature or kindness to animals.
After giving me a full week of perfect weather the forecast now shows a chance of rain every day until Sunday. And I have cut all the hayfields. And I need one more day of drying. Just ONE MORE DAY!
Fingers crossed.
I hope you have a lovely day. Me too!!
Love celi

It probably takes Wai a few weeks to trust a new human – I noticed how talkative he is in the Instagram video. It’s good to hear that Tima is being kind to him 🙂
At least they don’t seem to be fighting through the fence.. which is ‘getting on’ for Tima!!
Sounds similar to Sheila (who I’m sure told the Bobbys about the Wizard of Oz) 😉
Part of the variability we have had this year is the rain showers which go around us, I will cross my fingers that is true for you today!
So far so good – keep those fingers crossed though! c
Aroha Wai Wai, toa ngakau toa… such a brave boy. He looks as if he’s been gouged by huge claws and blasted by fiery breath. I wonder if there are any dragons in his past! I bet your pig rescue lady finds him changed – for the better – past all recognition.
Yes, so much change, hey? Just look at all the weight that’s fallen off already… You can really see his face & rib cage now and he’s getting “baggy-stocking-ankles” of loose skin. Such a tough little fellow! And who wouldn’t be gruff, with his life’s experience?
Yes, much of his fat has been literally dropping off – he is on a very good diet too – plenty of fruits and vegetables and a boiled egg for protein – now is not the time to be on a weightloss diet but he is getting thinner anyway. Of course much of that puffiness would have been edema caused by the shock and the burns themselves. The fluids pathways being burned out. c
Poor little sod, he is an amazing animal C! And bless you for giving him loving care: )
It’s as if he can’t quite believe people are being good to him…
HUGE *sigh* & shaking head in disillusionment… (All the more “good” we need to be to balance it out)
Wai has decided you are his #1 human 🙂 Hoping Michael comes with his Granny’s short bread recipe? Holding thumbs here for 2 more dry days for the hay 🙂 Laura
Oh shortbread! I will ask.. c
True Scots’ Shortbread? Hmm: )
There is a scots woman here in town that makes shortbread all the time. Let me know if you need the recipe.
Thank you so much, that would be wonderful! (I am a consummate collector of recipes; )
It doen’t sound like Tima makes friends easily 😊 so what are your thoughts about Wai going forward? Is he destined to be a Farmy pig? Or will he be rehabilitated for another family? Or maybe it’s too soon to tell?
My hope is for him to go and live with Tima and Tane. Just as soon as he is allowed out in the sun which will not be for a while. He will stay here – I am not sending him away after all the hours he and i have spent together cleaning and dressing his wounds and spirit
Great news!
Wai must have some of your spirit and gumption!
So did your Flying Scotsman bring his kraken? HA!
Should I ask him?
Here’s to the better of that 50% chance of sunshine! For me, one of the most difficult parts of rescue is the unknown past. I bet Wai will learn to trust Alissa, it will just take time.
Alissa is passing through really so there is no reason for me to worry about that. IIt is a bonus that he likes me i think!. c
It’s wonderful to hear how Wai has come to love and trust you. I’m sure he will be wary of strangers for quite some time. I don’t imagine he likes John.? Enjoy listening to that dreamy Scottish accent : ) sigh…….
John is almost never out there so i am not sure he knows him.. c
Some friendship. I think they must have had a tiff. The cat on the fence rail seems to be enjoying Tima’s sulk behind the post while Wai waddles away muttering, “pigs!”
That Cat!!! c
The black and white cow is so geometrical as to look like a flag. Mooland.
Keep THAT idea in mind! c
Tima must understand Wai’s need for a friend!
PLus he is a male after all.. c
True!
Lady Astor and Ton Ton seem to be having words! Glad all your helpers are with you now, some much needed help. We had thunder storms yesterday. I hope you keep dry today.
Yes! I am looking forward to a great month. c
Praying for drying skies!
Mmm… None of your photos are showing up on the app ):
Other than the header, that is…
Re Tima & Wei… Birds of a feather?; )
Wai and what app do you mean? c
Oops, sorry! Thought it looked funny):
The WordPress app. Double-checking right now to see if it’s still blank…
Ah yes – go figure, they are visible now (so weird). No worries C!
Good old Wai is looking better. Hope the nasty weather holds off for you.
Wai is just adorable, scars and all. He has quite the story to tell.
Oh I am so glad to hear that Wai will be able to live out the rest of his life with you on the Farmy! After all he’s been through and has just now found some goodness and compassion, it would not be good for him or you if he had to move on. You two have worked too hard together…
Have you been able to find out yet what exactly happened to him? I truly hope it wasn’t intentional. He is looking sooo much better, day by day C. Bless you..
