Last Big Farm Day

Today is a big day on the farm – getting it all ready for my 6 weeks away. I have help coming. Then Saturday I will focus on the house.

First stop San Francisco on Sunday (leaving early) then out to Melbourne Monday night – late – so I will have plenty of time to post on Monday! My mental health day. I will gather all my mental forces for long haul travel on Monday.

And I might even post a TKG Take Ten from above the clouds, from the plane, if I have WiFi. You never know. Sometimes it works! However don’t expect to see me before Wednesday – Illinois time. Thursday – Melbourne time.

I will be back on-line by then.

I arrive in Melbourne on their Wednesday, after a 15 hour flight. Yes. FIFTEEN hours. (And an extra day) I like direct flights – they do marginally less damage environmentally. And I don’t have to worry about connections. And I arrange those hours into blocks of work, movies, exercise- like a normal day but sitting down.

They should build tiny yoga studios into planes – wouldn’t that be great! and seats with pedals.

Also – and most importantly – I change the time on my watch to the time at my destination the moment I enter the plane. Making sure I am not napping in the morning!!

Anyway – today I have help on the farm so we are going to get through heaps of work. And R is poised to pop out twice a week. This will be great because the week I get back baby – birds and (hopefully) piglets arrive. And R will make sure I am quite ready.

It started out sunny this morning but the clouds have closed in again – if it does NOT rain I will be grateful. Though it will be cold – going down to 28f (-2c) tonight. I hope that is the last of it!

The sun came out right at the end of the day yesterday. Shining straight from the horizon. I could see the green in the trees – back lit – peeping out.

Have a great day!

Take care and Talk soon.

Celi

Here is a TKG Take Ten for you! Quacker in her pond. This one is especially calm. TKG Take Ten Travel (the evening edition of The Kitchens Garden) will go out every week day evening at 5pm central while I am traveling, so make sure to sign up for that. HERE.

  1. Wait…piglets?! Did I miss that info or did you just sneak it in now? We get more pigs!!! Food pigs I assume…
Regardless, glad to hear the farmy has an assistant for the trip. Have a great flight and I give a resounding yes to that seat pedal idea. I would use them fully on my regular flights to Denver

    • Hi Deb! I, too, missed that piglets were coming! But I’m thinking Celi did mention that the cows and pigs would be mainly for Farmy feeding from not on.

  2. No doubt today will be a busy one!!! Fast forward and power walking mode for sure! So excited about your trip! The long trips and time changes can be exhausting, but sounds like you have it figured out. Let the fun begin!!! 🙂

  3. Celi, what is your exercise routine on the long flight? I have a ten-hour flight from Portland to London coming up in May and with a recent knee replacement I’m a bit worried. I always choose an aisle seat and drink lots of water so I have to get up often. And try to do stretches in the galley. But I’m curious about what you do.

  4. Piglets? 💕. Have a good restful relocation. We will all be willing it to go well. Off to Spain in a couple of weeks(from Uk) and that’s now the extent of my flying! Happy with that tho!

  5. I cannot imagine how a farm runs when you are actually there let along gone for a few weeks. I wonder if the pigs miss you?

  6. I’m reading this on Tuesday, Australian time, so I’m imagining you already in the air, pointing in our direction. It’s a long, long time in the air. Lots of heading to the furthest toilets for a bit of extra walking, lots of ankle circles in your seat… I remember the drill.
