I don’t know about you but I am worn out with the waiting

Not so Mama. She is just calmly watching for the stork. In her usual  sublime ovine dreamy state.

Yesterday every man and his dog decided to drop in, plus a couple of delivery men, the junk yard man, the farmer who rents the land alongside ours, the neighbours daughters (typical), another set of neighbours looking for asparagus, The Matriarchs dog and several assorted bit players.

Hairy MacLairy put on his best pose at Pats New Gate.

A state of controlled bedlam reigned for the afternoon with home made pizza and blueberry muffins to follow.  I am still not entirely sure where the Matriarch’s dog came from but there he is warming my gumboots for me.  No sign of The Matriarch.

Daisy was not wasting a minute of her allotted hour on the grass. She just ignored them all. Actually now that I think about it she may have sent Hairy to GUARD the gate to prevent any intrusions.

Mama  must be getting close now, (how many times have I said that) and if there is breaking news at the wrong time of the day I might just HAVE to post a wee shot on the Kitchen’s Garden Project Facebook page while I am making a post for you.

Last night Mama put herself to bed with her head  dipping above her water trough, I worried that she would nod off and her head would fall into the water. Lying down to drink is tired.  Her feet hurt.

This morning when I checked Mama at 4,  there was a tiny shower and she was standing ever so still just enjoying the cool  gentle rain. No change. I sighed and came back in to start work.

But a word to the wise. There is no guarantee that things will go well. Mia has taught us that.  Sheep are really not as robust as they look. She has a good team but in the end Mama is not as young as she was.  But so far so good.

Anyway, Today is Old Codgers Dog Day. TonTon had his shampoo yesterday and is probably outside this very minute rolling in something hideous to perfume himself for his outing. Between the carpenter and my Sheep Sitter from down the road, Mama will be well looked after while I am gone.  Though if she has her lambs on the only morning I leave the property this week I will be so cranky!

Good morning. I hope you all have a good busy day. I like busy. Until it is not. Then I like Not Busy.

  1. My fresh washed (not pressed) dog just rolled in something odiferous :-(. Hoping for all good things for you and Mama.

    • I know about the freshly washed but never pressed! Ton much to his own delight only found the manky AFTER we had been out visiting! lucky he is easy to wash up!!!

    • They were immensely delicious and extraordinarily ugly as they all stuck to the tins.. next time i shall use those paper patty cups! then i will take a photo for you.. c

  2. Yes, a very busy day! I’ve been up since dawn running and getting caught up on a week’s worth of delayed chores…and had to come in to sit a moment and check on Mama! I think it is so interesting to note that a sheep may seem hardy, but complications can set in. My daughter is an emergency room nurse, and has told me over and over how “we” take for granted that birth will go well…so in humans, our animal family. But with all best wishes and prayers said over this precious creature, I’m “expectant” right along with her–and you! While you spend time with the old Codger…maybe today! Staying tuned…Debra

    • I have all my bedroom windows open wide and mama is in the closest home field so i hope to hear if she starts to deliver in the night.. a scary thought.. c

  3. I’ve heard the best place to know your neighbors in to live in the countryside where acres separate you… not the city streets where we are mere yards from each other;) Glad you’ve had company to distract you on your watch.. time will go by faster that way!

    • I have been alone out here for years but the animals have drawn people lately, they hear about the blog, read it and then come out, it really is so sweet.. they know stuff and want to help.. so really the animals have drawn people into their little love web! c
