WE had another wicked frost yesterday morning. The ground was crunchy as I trudged to and fro in my gumboots and clown suit feeding animals and getting ready for the milking. We still managed to pick kale, lettuce and radishes for lunch but the pickin’s are getting slim!
Mia has been let in with the ram. She is bigger than Mama now, good and strong and old enough to breed. She had a mishap last year, with a prolapse and the loss of her twins so I was hesitant. We have to give her a second chance. This is a farm for growing food after all. Poor Old Hairy was having such a time with the harness that I have given up. There is a rumour of a man who brings his scanner to a local farm later in the winter so I might load these two up and take them over. That could be an exciting day!
Minty and Meadow are hanging out together now as a flock of two.
Charlotte will be taken to visit a boar in January. She is definitely the biggest and strongest of the Shush Sisters. Gestation for a pig is three months, three weeks and three days. So if all goes well there will be babies galore in the spring on the farmy! I am still working on finding us a new cow for the spring to feed everyone.
Li’l Puss spent all day on the verandah and in the gardens. He will be fine. He is a feisty wee fella. He literally turned on TonTon and attacked him for staring too much. All claws with spitting and screeching. Ton, like the good dog that he is, took fright, turned tail and hid behind ME. For the rest of the day he gave L’il Puss a very wide berth.
Eva said yesterday in the Lounge of Comments that maybe I could show the progression of the Daily View on one page at some time. Good idea Eva. Thank you. So at the end of the month I will collect one or two from each week and pop them on the same page. It occurs to me as I am writing that maybe I could do a slide show, that would be fun, but that might be a wee bit beyond my capabilities.
And though I intend to manage my time exceptionally well in November unfortunately there is not way to actually ADD an hour or two.
It has been windy the last few days.
Very windy yesterday and quite warm.
Our min/max thermometer arrived in the mail yesterday, however the mercury has divided and is a bit bubbly. So I will have to work on it. Consulting with The Father seems to be in order. It is only in Fahrenheit but it will be hung right next to our favourite old thermometer so you will see them both in one shot. No need for equations. This is my plan anyway.
You all have a lovely day. A lovely, lovely day.

On this day a year ago. Meatballs on Silverbeet.

Clver pigs to keep things in threes! Things are about to ghet very exciting 🙂
I dread the cold because it means I won’t have any fresh things from the garden or from my herbs.
That dratted frost, eh? I didn’t have much to pick from little garden anyway.. maybe next year? So.. slideshows… Upload the usual way, any photos you wish, don’t add extra ones for that post because you can’t pick and choose which ones go into the slideshow (i.e. everything photo you upload goes into the slideshow for that post.. unless you delete them). Then save all of the photos you’ve uploaded, as usual. Then scroll down past those photos.. you’ll see two choices.. one for a gallery and one for a slide show. Just insert the slideshow (where ever you want it on your post) and you’ll see a little link show up on your post. Once you publish your post.. voila like magic you’ll have a slideshow:D Can’t wait to see!! xx
Thats you barb i shall give it a crack, not til the end of the month though! greats instructions.. c
Oh won’t spring time be fun if you have all these babies around. My kids will no doubt enjoy the pictures. So will I! The series of a few shots of the view from throughout the month is a great idea. It will help get a little perspective. Sort of like with the kids…when I see them every day they look the same to me, but if I look at pictures from month to month I can see the changes – even if subtle. Stay warm Celi!
Wouldn’t Nina be a great name for one of the new little piglets…say the first born? 3-3-3…you know, instead of Nine? Really, I don’t know where that came from! 🙂 Crunch crunch on the frosty grass…love it!!
Hard when the frost comes and the plentiful crops grow less so.I guess it’s all part of the farmy’s rich pattern. Lovely post. (Slide shows are fairly simple- just upload all your pix and then hit ‘insert slide show’ at the bottom once you have saved changes.)
When you load your photos on wordpress, load them all at once, then scroll down and you will see a button for slideshow…push and all the photos then become a slide show. It’s raining and cold here. We had to build a fire. Of course, it is wash day, not good for drying day.

Happy Friday on the Farmy:)
We’re also hoping to breed our sow in December. Our cow isn’t bred yet as we haven’t had access to a bull and no vets here to AI. I think we may consider investing in a bull but he’d have to be very mellow! It’s always a hassle when you’re not big enough to own the males of the species!
But a bull eats so much for one days work a year, a bit like Hairy MacLairy.. however she will definitely get pregnant with a bull.. have you thought of raising your own, get a little bull calf, no use for this cycle though, but a lot cheaper and you can train him.. though even the had reared bulls can get mean.. c
Three months, three weeks, and three days! That is crazy stuff. I had no idea. You could have piglets all year round I suppose. Those will certainly make some adorable pictures! 🙂
Wow. Frost on the crunchy ground…makes me miss being able to walk on earth instead of concrete all the time.
you really need to come down to the farmy for some EARTH time! c
Not that I want the time to go faster: the more years on my shoulders the quicker it seems to pass anyways 😦 ! But am SO looking forwards to spring on your farmy to see all the little ones for which you hope 🙂 ! Love Li’l Puss for settling in so quickly: guess TonTon better get used to it 🙂 !
Sheesh: have to be more careful – how did Eha come up as anonymous 😀 !
I think you sent the wind here today. It was ridiculous. I love the light in the photo of Charlotte. Hopefully, there will be no jealous backstabbing in January when she gets a boy(pig)friend. Such a story that would be.
Oh I had not thought of that, Sheila might be miffed.. but I am not sending my darling sheila off to a dirty old boar!! c
It is too early for crunchy grass, I’m covering my ears! Spring is shaping up to be a very busy time in the nursery. 🙂
That Eva comes up with some great ideas!
