Good Bees.. Close Up

Only two pictures today… because yesterday nothing topped the honey in Nefertiti’ s House..

abwednesday-0141

and the Brood in Cleopatra’s.

abwednesday-011

These are hand held shots so the images are not brilliantly sharp at this magnification. But … wow.  I could not resist. They had a tough spring with all the rain and storms and cool weather. So both colonies are still small but they are trucking along:  Good Bees!

And that is all for today because all the other pictures paled in comparison!

Have a lovely, lovely day.

your friend, celi

ps, If you want to enter a guess at how many piglets our darling  Charlotte will have .. pop back here.

  1. Been at the cabin and missed three of your posts Celi. Hate the title of the last one and Robert says, “don’t read that to me!” But I’ll be brave…:)

  2. A real home show! The close up shots are wonderful.
This area is alert right now about Africanized killer bees. Yesterday they blocked off a residential area and removed a HUGE hive built under the eaves of a house (it was really big) One of the neighbor’s dogs was stung to death the day before. LAst week near Waco (west of here more towards Dallas) a man on his tractor disturbed a hive and was stung too severely to live. We need a really cold cold winter here which discourages those bees.
Between the pesticides and those aggressive bees our little honey bees are at risk. So glad you are well to the north with actual winters. We need all the honey bees we can get!
Hope you have a sweet day!

  3. Have notice a lot of natural little honey bees in my garden over the past couple of weeks, which is fantastic! They have been on my two Kiwi climbers and I notice I have lots of little kiwi’s forming – first year (they are actually 4 years old this year, has taken that long to get to this stage). Love your pictures, you are a natural with your camera!

  4. Very cool photo C, I’ve never seen a hive so close up. You’ll have lots of gorgeous honey from these busy workers! Over the last few years we’ve been buying bees wax candles exclusively from a Toronto based family owned business…I finally figured out why I got a stuffy nose every time we put a candle on, it’s because they are paraffin! The bees wax is so much cleaner. Did you know that in Canada the government only regulates that you need add only 10% actual bees wax to be able to call it a bees wax candle. It’s ridiculous.

  5. Any creature that can inspire this lovely quote is to be admired. Love the photos. XX

    Quote from poet Antonio Machado–

“Last night as I was sleeping

    I dreamt—marvelous error!—

    that I had a beehive

    here inside my heart.

    And the golden bees

    were making white combs

    and sweet honey

    from my old failures.”

  6. Bees are fascinating, they really must have had a tough time this spring with all the rain and cold 😦 poor bees, hopefully the sun will be here to stay soon!
